Known for the multicultural and unique walking terrains, this trip offers a full tea house and the rich cultures of distinct ethnic groups, including Thakali, Rai, Manange and Gurung. The route passes through a semi-forest area, to arid Tibetan plateau landscapes, surrounded by gigantic Himalayan peaks, and a scheduled valley. Starting along the Marsyangdi River, the Annapurna Circuit Trek ascends to Thorong La Pass (5,416 m) and then descends northward into a desert-like landscape beside the Kali Gandaki River.

The excursion winds off through the protected Annapurna Conservation Area, featuring the untamed beauty of nature, unique Himalayan flora and fauna, making the hike intriguing and not boring. From lovely hills, verdant forests, the local settlements of quaint villages, several viewpoints, to the desert-like hills and high cliffs, it demonstrates every highlight aspect of the Annapurna region. Throughout the great mountain ranges such as Mt. Annapurna, Mt. Dhaulagiri, Macchapuchhre (Mt. Fishtail), Chulu West, Pisang Peak, Nilgiri, Lamjung Himal, and many more accompany you in each step.

Trekking Route

The first half of the trail covers the Manang region, starting from a road drive to Dharapani from Kathmandu and meandering through the Marshyangdi valley. Bypassing several settlements such as Chame, Upper Pisang, Gheru, Ngawal village, and Yak Kharka, and visiting ancient monasteries and hill points, with the best possible Himalayan Range such as Lamjung Himal, Annapurna, Pisang Peak, Chulu West, and Chulu Far East.

In between, the acclimatisation day is set in Manang (3500 meters), where we'll ascend to the Gangapurna glacier Lake formed by the glacier of majestic Annapurna II (7934 m) and Gangapurna Himal (7455 m). Then, the trek continues with an enchanting hike to the pass of Thorung La, where the 360-degree panoramic views of Tilicho Peak, Mt. Manaslu, and Machhapuchhre, including the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri massif, with the colourful Tibetan prayer flags marking its Tibetan Buddhism significance, are attached to this highland.

The route continues by covering the second half of the route, connecting the Mustang District - also known as Himal Pari ko Jilla (Land behind Himalayas), where the downhill walk leads us to the "Muktinath Temple", following the bank of the Kali Gandaki River. The journey rewards you with dramatic cliffs and desert landscapes surrounded by the towering ancient caves and mountains, come into view, which also touch the route of the Mustang region.

Then, the safari-like dirt-road drive to a fascinating one begins from Muktinath to Tatopani (Natural Hot Spring), where many other popular trekking trails converge, so make sure to mingle with fellow hikers and listen to their travel stories. Maybe your next destination?

After Ghorepani overnight, ascend Poon Hill for sunrise over 17 peaks, with the golden shade of sunrise on the very next day. Our trek concludes with a road drive to Kathmandu via Pokhara over the following 2 days, with the lifetime memories carried within us.

Major Latest Updates in 2026

  • The tea houses, lodges, even at higher altitudes, now operate as standard luxury lodges, with better services, 4G wifi, private washrooms (at some points), and private bedrooms.
  • Since April 2023, till the present date, 2026, the rule of hiring a licensed experienced trekking guide is mandatory, as an independent hike is banned.

At Dharapani, the day begins with breakfast. We’ll start the trek to Chame village- the district headquarters of Manang district and trail through the green forest of oak, pine, fir, and maple trees. Surrounded by the dense greenery, we’ll also get to see breathtaking insights into the majestic snow-capped mountains of Annapurna II, Lamjung Himal on our left. While many local people and professional trekkers continue to Manang the same day, we will stay overnight in Chame for proper acclimatization.

Max Altitude: 2,630m/8,758ft. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and DinnerAccommodation: Guest houseDuration: 6-7hrsDistance: 15.9km

The 3rd day of our trek begins in the early morning by heading towards the Upper Pisang by traversing through blooming red, and pink rhododendrons and pine in a steep, narrow valley to have our first view of the thrilling giant rocky wall known as Paungda Dada Rock and Swargadwari Danda, rising above 1500 meters from the Marshyangdi River. From the Chame route, we’ll be rewarded with spectacular views of the towering Annapurna II and pyramid-shaped Pisang Peak on the northeast by passing through several villages like Talekhu, and Bhratang. We’ll cross the long suspension bridge before entering Pisang where we’ll be staying overnight. If you reach Pisang quite early, make sure to wander around the village and if you are lucky then you’ll see magnificent vistas of Longyo Danda and Kuntu Dada. Stay warm and rest well for tomorrow's long hike.

Today is one of the most beautiful but challenging paths of our Annapurna Circuit Trek route as we’ll trail through several steep ascents starting right from Upper Pisang. There are two routes available to reach Manang, the lower route takes us through the valley via the Humde airstrip, and the upper route. We’ll be trekking on the upper trails through Ngawal via Gheru from where we’ll be treated to alluring views of Annapurna I, II, III, IV, Lamjung Himal, Gangapurna Himal, and Pisang Peak. Before arriving at Manang, we’ll pass by Tibetan settlements and famous monasteries which provide unique insight into Buddhist culture that makes the difficult trek worth every step. We’ll also visit the largest monastery in Manang, the Barge Monastery which gives a peaceful and serene vibe making our trek more meaningful. Although the trek is tough today, it’ll prepare us for the crossing of Thorong La Pass tomorrow.

Max Altitude: 3,519m/11,545ft. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and DinnerAccommodation: Guest houseDuration: 6-7hrsDistance: 15.5km

Today is our acclimatization day which is necessary for us to adjust to the rising altitude. As per our Annapurna Circuit Trek itinerary, we have two exciting options for exploration: After breakfast, we can trek to Lama Cave, located just above Manang, where an elderly Lama couple once welcomed visitors with a cup of black tea for 100 rupees. Although the couple has passed away, others continue this tradition, and it is believed that receiving blessings from the Lama helps trekkers in crossing Thorong La Pass, making this journey beneficial for acclimatization. Another possibility is heading towards Ice Lake which is highly situated at 4500 meters of height. It is a long and tough day but the Lake itself is so beautiful and you will see many towering Himalaya peaks in surroundings like Annapurna massifs, Pisang, Chilang, and many more. This journey takes about 8-9 hours so we will take a packed lunch, of course there will be our guide with you during your journey. We will return to Manang Valley and stay overnight here again.

Max Altitude: 3,538m/11,545ft. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and DinnerAccommodation: Guest house

In the early morning, we will start preparing to head toward Yak Kharka, after having breakfast. After a short walk, we'll reach Tengi, a small charming old village that beautifully reflects the traditional lifestyle of the Manang people, who have constructed their homes in a cozy, clustered settlement. Here, farming is the primary means of livelihood showing us a different insight of the Himalayas and giving the village a beautiful rustic ambiance. As we continue our trek, we may encounter herds of yaks, blue sheep, and Himalayan tahr, along with horses and riders transporting essential goods. Our journey will take us to Khopra, where we can rest at a tea shop to enjoy a warm cup of tea. The trail is gentle, featuring only slight ascents, which allows for gradual acclimatization to the high altitude, although we might still feel a bit breathless at times. Today promises breathtaking views of the majestic white Himalayas and the surrounding landscapes making our hike worth it. We’ll be staying overnight in Yar Kharka tea house or lodge.

Max Altitude: 4,050m/13,189ft Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and DinnerAccommodation: Guest houseDuration: 4-5hrsDistance: 10.9km

Today, we can enjoy a late start, as the morning is colder than usual. Either we head to the Thorong Phedi or Thorong High Camp, it depends on the current situation. The trail gradually ascends towards Thorong Phedi, offering stunning views of white peaks, including Akwakang and Thorong Peak, as well as numerous unnamed summits along the Nepal-Tibet border. After approximately three hours of walking, we will arrive at Thorong Phedi (4,450 m), a former resting spot for trekkers before the establishment of tea houses at High Camp. Here, we will rest for lunch before going on a steep ascent to Thorong High Camp, which may take about another hour. If you find the climb difficult today due to the unfavorable weather conditions as it makes the trail slippery due to the snowfall at the Annapurna Circuit Trek route, we can choose to stay at Thorong Phedi. However, reaching Thorung High Camp will make tomorrow’s demanding trek a bit easier and shorter. We will spend the night at the cozy lodge in Thorung High Camp.

Max Altitude: 4,880m/16,010ft. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and DinnerAccommodation: Guest houseDuration: 5-6hrsDistance: 7.5km

Today, we must be ready for the most challenging section of our Annapurna Circuit Trek so, after a short briefing by our guide. Eat well and hydrate yourself properly as no tea houses are along the way. We’ll head towards Thorong La Pass, our most awaited destination. We'll ascend for about 4-5 hours to reach the pass, marked by prayer flags. On the north side towards Tibet of the pass, we’ll see stunning vistas of the Nilgiri and Dhaulagiri ranges and if we look back, then we can get insights into the Annapurna ranges that will leave us speechless but be careful of the strong winds that may require a quick descent. From the Thorong La Pass, we’ll descend towards a holy pilgrimage site Muktinath temple for religiously hindu108 sacred taps are believed to wash all the sins and bring blessings and we can also see the eternal flame that has been burning there for more than 2,000 years. We’ll spend the night in Muktinath to celebrate our victory along with our guide and porter who made our trekking possible.

After early breakfast, we’ll start our drive to Tatopani by sharing a jeep or bus. Although it will be a bumpy ride as it passes through some of the deepest gorges in the world, we’ll be amazed by the gorgeous transition from semi-aired deserts to greenery lush forests along with the distinct views of Khingar and Jharkot Tibetan architecture, on the banks of the Kali Gandaki River. After traversing through Kokhethanti, Ghasa, and Marpha, we’ll finally reach the popular destination of our Annapurna Circuit Trek itinerary, Tatopani where we can soak in ourselves for a therapeutic bath making our body and muscles relax.

Max Altitude: 1,180m Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and dinnerAccommodation: Guest houseDuration: 4Distance: 64km

Leaving Tatopani behind, we'll head towards Ghorepani by crossing the Kali Gandaki River and through the rich cultural Thakali villages of Shikha, Ghara, and Chitre, where the friendly locals will greet us wholeheartedly. Along the trail, we will be surrounded by terraced fields perfectly blending nature with agriculture. As you stroll through the vibrant greenery of blooming red rhododendrons, birch, and magnolia adding vibrant color to nature we'll feel fresh and rejuvenated. After a delicious lunch in Shikha, the path gets a bit challenging due to the steep ascent ahead but reaching Ghorepani will be incredibly rewarding. Today, we'll take a 30 to 45-minute ascend to the top of Ghorepani Poonhill for a breathtaking sunrise over the snow-capped mountains of Dhaulagiri and Annapurna ranges. After we indulge in the beauty of snow-capped mountains with a small photo session. Shortly, it will be our time to head back to Ghorepani for breakfast before making any more efforts on the way back. , a steep descent down stone staircases will be used and if I am not wrong, many of our legs will be weak and tired. However, we can have a short rest for lunch on either Ulleri or Tikhedhunga before walking for a couple more hours of easy walking to Birethanti. In which vehicle, we will go to Pokhara, an alluring sightseeing city surrounded by lakes, and spend overnight in Pokhara.

Essential Information

Best Time

The best season to explore the Annapurna can be done anytime of the year, but the ideal time is marked by Spring and Autumn. During this particular timeframe, the weather is stable, with clear mountain views and landscapes. The chances of precipitation are merely low within this period, due to which, the terrains remain dry and smooth to commence. The temperature is mild, where one can trail along without being drained out and sweaty, and entails a chill hike.

On the other hand, the winter and monsoon are basically known to be off seasonal period, due to the heavy cloud bursts, that makes the route completely slippery, muddy and hard to pass through higher trails. The weather and climate conditions are so certain that it changes every other hour. Here is a quick overview of what to expect in the peak seasons during the trek.

  1. Spring 2026: Spring, from March through the end of May, is considered one of the peak seasons for hiking in Nepal. The whole lush green valley gets stunningly covered with the red rhododendrons, white oaks, orchids, and landscapes are adorable. The temperature ranges between 15 and 21 degrees Celsius in the lower lands, and does not fall below -5 degrees Celsius at higher altitudes, making night stays cosy and day hikes comfortable. As the winter fades away completely, the air becomes fresher, bringing clean terrain to walk in.
  2. Autumn season 2026: Autumn begins from mid-September and lasts till November in Nepal, which is another good time to hike the Annapurna Circuit. This particular time, soon, after the conclusion of the monsoon, with a lower chance of rain and snowfall, offering panoramic mountain insights and a safe route to cross Thorong La. The humidity stays at 17-20 degrees Celsius and falls to 0 or even -5 in high altitudes. The major festivals of the Himalayas, Dashain and Tihar, fall in this time, which intrigues locals and tourists all across the globe. The vista of the crystal clear Himalayan peaks and hills in front of you throughout, and the cultural vibes, bring serenity to the hike.

Annapurna Circuit Trek Difficulty

The Annapurna Circuit Trek is considered a moderately tricky and challenging walk that takes place at high altitudes. The trail consists of a wide variety, from dense subtropical forests to rugged and rocky pathways, that demand a proper fitness level and some experience as well. The trek covers around 220 kilometres, with a daily hiking pace of 5-6 hours, so you must be prepared accordingly by engaging in some kind of physical activity. As you go higher, the surroundings become more isolated and confined, with very few tea houses left, and fewer encounters with locals, which some might find too overwhelming.

The highest point marked is Thorong La Pass, which stands at 5,416 meters. With an increasing altitude and drop in oxygen, the risk of altitude sickness is always there, but as the itinerary includes great acclimatisation days, it entails a low risk of AMS. However, apart from some challenges, the route does not include any technical sections or require experience or climbing skills. If you have basic fitness or do proper preparations, and keep up the good spirit and positive attitude, this trip is attainable by everyone, from beginners to all age groups.

Trip Preparations

Here are the major preparations that the hikers must consider for the Annapurna Circuit Trekking:

  • Mental Preparation: We all know how vital a role being mentally prepared plays when it comes to making any adventure a complete success. Especially when we are planning to do the mountain area trail, where the possibility of harsh weather and climate conditions is always there. Always create a positive mindset to make your power strong, as at certain points, we might feel like giving up just because of the challenging route, accommodations, and terrains which are expected at Annapurna Trail, so follow the 3 P's of Perseverance, Persistence and Consistency to make the trip go by smoothly despite challenges.
  • Physical fitness: This 12-day trek demands a hike of 5-7 hours per day, covering at least 10-12 km of distance each day, so a basic level of fitness is a must. For a new bie it might be challenging to walk over the high passes and long duration of hike through several ascends and descends so, it is highly suggested to get engage in some kind of physical strengthning activities such as running in treadmill, or just nearby, swimming, cycling or even just do several ascends and desends by staircase completing the 10,000 step that way it helps to build the calves stamina.
  • Altitude acclimatisation: This adventure takes you to higher altitudes each day, most importantly, with the highest point being the Thorong La Pass at 5416  meters of altitude. Remember to be patient and walk along with a guide without rushing through things, and take a gradual ascent. While settling in at the tea houses, try to monitor the pulse rate through an oximeter and check what can be done if it goes below the normal level than the usual one. Consistency is the key to making this trip run more smoothly.

Accommodation

As the Annapurna Circuit is well-maintained with highly facilitated amenities, throughout this trek, you will get the best lodging possible. In the lower sections, there are luxury amenities available, such as attached electric sockets and washrooms within the room. You might even get single rooms with king-sized beds till we reach Upper Pisang, the mid-section of this trek.

Annapurna Circuit Trek Permits for 2026

For the Annapurna Circuit Trek, two permits are required: the ACAP (Annapurna Conservation Area Permit) and the TIMS Card (Trekkers Information Management System Card).

After your booking procedure is made with us, the necessary permits for the Annapurna Circuit will be managed by us after you arrive in Nepal.

Annapurna Conservation Permit costs around NRS 3000/- per person, which is approximately USD 26, and will only be obtained in either Kathmandu or Pokhara.
