Places to Visit During Your Kathmandu Day Tour
Swayambunath Temple (Monkey Temple)
Situated at the hilltop, just 15 minutes away drive from Kathmandu, Swayambunath is marked as one of the most spiritual Buddhist stupas, famous for showing the expansive panoramic view of the whole Kathmandu valley. Being surrounded by dense forest in the middle of the city, it is also the home of hundreds of monkeys, which is why foreigners call it the Monkey Temple. The main highlight of this site is the three huge golden statues, above 60 feet tall, a 64-foot-tall statue, Chenrezig (Avalokiteshvara), a 67-foot-tall figure of Shakyamuni Buddha, and a 64-foot-tall statue of Guru Rinpoche (Padmasambhava). With an ascent via a stone staircase consisting of 365 steps, it leads you to the top, where the gold-plated Vajra resides, which demonstrates peace and harmony.
Bouddhanath Temple
The Bouddhanath Stupa (Temple) stands out as another of the largest spiritual stupas in the world, which was constructed around the 5th century, but Tibetans believe that it was founded by a Tibetan King, way back at 600 AD. It is also marked as one of the beautiful pilgrimage sites, surrounded by the city, where the huge stupa stands at 36 meters (118 ft). It is said that if you do (koras), rounding the stupa 108 times, then you will be spiritually blessed and achieve enlightenment. While visiting this stupa, you can also get to see monks chanting, performing rituals, locals offering prayers, making the vibe completely serene and ethereal. The massive stupa, crowned with gold, towered against the clear blue sky, dominating the whole environment, looks captivating, especially from the rooftop, restaurants, and cafes that host it, just beside the stupas.

Pashupatinath Temple
