Essential Information

What is the Best Time for the 2-day Poon Hill Trek?

Just like any other himalayan trailhead, the ideal seasons for the Poon Hill Short Trek are the Spring (March to May) and Autumn (Sep to Nov), with stable weather and clear mountain and landscape views. During this time, you can expect low chances of precipitation (rain and snowfall), which makes the terrains to remain dry and easy to navigate, with the accompaniment of the great himalayan giants and welcoming locals.

However, the best part about trekking to Poon Hill is that it stands out to be an all-around adventure, where trekkers can trail along, enjoyably and hassle-free, even at off seasons winter and monsoon. As this hike is straightforward, short in time and gains a lower altitude, there won't be any challenges regarding snow blockage, logistics availability, or technical crossing as the pathway is well maintained and can be easily navigated even when the terrains are slippery.

But the real question is whether you can complete this trip within two days, or not, during the off-season period, as the trailhead becomes more challenging and poses some risk of nature hazards of muddy trails, disturbing leeches, mosquitoes, as the route covers 70% of the forest navigation. While undertaking this journey at high precipitation period, it can be thrilling and enjoyable to some, but it can be physically and mentally challenging to beginners. Thus, the best time marks are Spring and Autumn, where the idyllic climate conditions and the absence of unfortunate cloud bursts make the journey worth it.

Trekking in Spring: What to Expect in 2026?

The season of Spring is everyone's favourite, where the whole valley, the Annapurna region, thrives in the stunning, colourful landscapes with the adorable red rhododendrons, making the route captivating throughout. As this time of the year arrives, after the end of winter, the air feels fresh, and the temperature slowly starts to rise, from below temperature to mild ones, ranging from 10 °C to 14 °C during the day, perfect for a long hour hike, without draining yourself physically.

The sunlight day hour also lasts for a longer time, where you can hike at ease, without having to worry about early evening darkness, and explore every corner. The morning begins with a stunning sunrise, over the tip of the himalayan peaks just behind the remote villages and flowers, which makes the mountain insight truly intriguing. If you are someone who loves to wander around nature, and fully delve into the rich himalayan flora and fauna, or tends to be a social influencer, or a photographer, then every second spent in this territory reminds you of the lively himalayan vibrancy and the livelihood of locals.

Trekking in Autumn: What to Expect?

The peak and crowded time to explore the almighty Poon Hill Trail is marked by the season of Autumn, as it comes after the end of the monsoon (high precipitation), welcoming dry weather and literally no chance of rain or snowfall. While minimal rainfall is still expected in early sep, by mid-September, the monsoon raons sweeps away all the dust and offer a fresh, clean mountain air. During the daytime, the upfront view of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri massif befriends you throughout the trailhead, with an early morning golden sunrise vista, waking you up, with astonishing beauty. The landscapes, on the other hand, get covered with the crusty leaves, golden millets on the farms, and the lively cultures and festival celebrations of the locals, as the major festivals, Dashain and Tihar, fall in between.

Due to the absence of gloom and cloudy fog, the sunrise panoramic 360-degree vista of the gigantic Himalayan peaks becomes even more prominent, surrounding you, and feels even more magical as the prayer flags flutter in the mild air. The temperature ranges between 12 °C and 16 °C during the day and does not fall below -2 °C at night, which makes it one of the best places to visit, attracting hikers worldwide. That is why the tea house tends to be more crowded than usual. Hence, the autumn season suits those trekkers who want to get a unique perspective of the himalayas, immerse in rich cultures, traditions, and exchange cultural relations, meeting keen-minded hikers like you - time to make friends and create memories!
