This 5-day Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek from Pokhara itinerary starts with a jeep drive towards Nayapul, and proceeds on a hike towards Ghandruk village, situated at an elevation of 1920 meters, traversing through the local hamlets, verdant forest trails, cascading waterfalls, and rich flora and fauna, along with the terraced farms, with the crops growing all along. Today, at an early hour, after breakfast, the trekking local guide, who will assist you throughout the trip, will come to pick you up from the hotel/homestay or wherever you are staying in Pokhara. At around 7:00 AM to 8:00 AM, we'll take a jeep drive to Nayapul, which lasts for almost 2 hours, witnessing the transition of the green lush valleys, small local hamlets, small bridges, alongside a few rivers, terraced farms, and a glimpse of the majestic himalayan peaks, which is no less than an adventure.

The starting walking trail point of our 5-day Ghoorepani Poon Hill Ghandruk Trekking marks, to be Nayapul, from where we will proceed on a gentle hike, passing via blooming thriving rhododendron forests, thrived in pink and red shades, with some glimpse of terraced fields, as well as we navigate through small villages of Birethanti, Syauli Bazaar, and Chimrung, where the spellbinded peaks, including Mt. Machhapuchare (Fishtail), Hiunchuli, Annapurna, accompany us, in each step. After 3 hours of hiking with some gentle ascent, we will finally reach the Gurung cultural heart at Ghandruk village.

Afterwards, we'll conclude our day, getting back to the tea house of the village of Ghandruk, sipping Tibetan tea, and having homely, delicious meals, ending the day with the warm hospitality of the locals.

The morning starts with a stunning sunrise view over the top of the gigantic mountains, which we get to see from our cosy tea house, itself, while savouring the breakfast, gazing at the surrounding vista, is something that will remain with us forever. Before we proceed on a hike, we will take a short walk to the hill point, where we get to see the entire Ghandruk Gurung village, with the slatted roof tops, whitely painted, and ancient stone decorated, and the upclose, 360 panorama vista of the Annapurna I, II, Machhapuchre, Hiunchuli, Gangapurna, and many more.

After spending some time here, we'll start our hike towards Ghorepani, navigating through the dense woodland area, marked by the bamboos, pines, and of course! The rhododendron blooms, river streams, wooden bridges, as we leave the woodland forest trail behind, we'll enter the terraced farms, with ancient hamlets of magar ethnic groups, and some key notable villages, like Tadapani, Deurali, with stone step pathways, steep terraces. After 4-5 hours of hiking, including several uphill walks, we will get to our destination, Ghorepani, at an altitude of 2860 meters, where we will be staying overnight.

Waking up early in the morning, with the chilling fresh air, we will take an uphill early morning hike, to savour the unmatched heavenly sunrise view at the Poon Hill viewpoint perched at an elevation of 3210 meters. The morning hike starts with a steep ascent, via some stone steps, a continuous walk, as well, which might be a bit tiring yet fascinating, with the enchanting surrounding picturesque villages of the Gurung and Magar communities, along with the red rhododendrons, as we traverse through the lush verdant forest, and rivers, and finally reach the hill point at 10,532 feet. 

Standing at the vantage point, the heavenly panoramic vista of the mountains covered with snow, adorned with the red and orange sunrise, over the himalayan peaks, including Annapurna I, II, IV, Lamjung Himal, Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri, Mount Fishtail, along with other giants, rewards us and grants us with unmatched panoramic insights. We will leave the lodge behind and take a downhill walk to Tadapani, entering the forested trail, with rhododendrons, pines, and oaks, passing via Deurali, Chitre, Birethanti, Banthanti, and shortly after, reach the cane field, at Bhurung Khola, and continuing the hike, we'll reach Tadapani.

Start your beautiful day with the close-up panorama vista of the gigantic peaks, indulging in a fulfilling breakfast, to keep us engaged for a continuous downhill walk, from Tadapani to Ghandruk. Navigating via a forest wood trail, through several gurung and Magar villages, a rhododendron and pine-blooming pathway, alongside the mountain views, we will reach Ghandruk village, after 2-3 hours.

We'll basically get to the village around 11 AM, where the rest of the day, we can explore and take a deep dive into the local gurung communities, and engage in different cultural activities, to elevate our cultural exploration tour.

On this very day, we will visit the ancient old stone houses, cobbled alleys, interact/chat with the local gurung families/villagers, gain insight into the agricultural traditional work, such as women weaving on looms, engage in a local cooking session, for instance, getting to learn about how to make local Tibetan Nepalese cuisines, such as Dhido, traditional Dal Bhat set, Tibetan bread, sel roti, etc, and learn few local gurung phrases, customs, and their historic stories, in serving to army service for british, and so on. We'll also explore the handicrafts and souvenir local stores, and visit small local cafes, enjoying the local cuisines and specialities. The evening concludes with a traditional cultural gurung dance, and enjoying the locally made cosy dinner, made with love and pure heart, by gurung families.

The ideal seasons for the trek to Ghandruk Poon Hill stand out as the Spring (mid March till May), and the Autumn season, starting from September to November, with stable weather and climatic conditions, clear skies, along with moderate temperature. During this span of the year, you can expect very few chances of precipitation (rainfall or snowfall), offering crystal clear insights into the surrounding views and dry terrains, which makes the trail easier and smoother to navigate. The rooms are basic, yet have all the facilities, such as laundry, hot shower, wifi accessibility, and a charging station; however, due to the limited solar energy, the tea house might charge you extra for such amenities.

Entry Permits and Requirements

For this Ghandruk Ghorepani Trek, there are two essential permits required: firstly, the Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP) and secondly, the Trekkers Information Management System Card, which covers the trail within the region. These required permits can either be obtained at Kathmandu (Nepal Tourism Board) or at Pokhara. 

ACAP Entry Permit (Annapurna Conservation Area Permit) costs approximately NRS 3000 (USD 26) for foreign trekkers, whereas cost half the price for SAARC nationalities, and costs only NRS 100, less than a dollar for Nepalese hikers. 

For the TIMS (Trekkers Information Management System Card), approx. NRS 2000 (USD 17) each group, and costs NRS 500 (USD 3.8) for solo trekkers; however, the cost is only NRS 300 for SAARC nations.
