Finally, we will enter Mustang, Nepal, as we'll reach Kagbeni, a thrilling yet culturally adventurous trip awaits us! The drive begins with a peaceful setting along the Kali Gandaki gorge that seems surreal with the thundering mountains of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri massifs. En route, we can witness a marvelous transition of green hills, valleys, alleys that have transformed to the Tibetan plateau and some massive orange rock formations, that's when the rewarding view starts.

On the 1st section, we will reach "Muktinath Temple", which stands out to be one of the holy pilgrimage sites site to both Buddhists and Hindus as it is dedicated to Lord Vishnu, Gautam Buddha, and other Buddhist deities. 13 May 2026: Drive to Charang (3560 meters) from Kagbeni (2820 meters), 5 hours

Today, the tour starts with getting our permits registered to get access to the upper Mustang region, at Kagbeni, from where we'll officially enter the restricted area and higher section of Mustang, Nepal. The drive begins following the northern side of the Kali Gandaki River valley, which passes through Tibetan dotted alleys, widely opening with the sky caves in between via mani walls, chortens, colorful Buddhist prayer flags in between, and we'll also pay a visit to Ghar Gompa- Lo Gekar Monastery, which was built by the Guru Rinpoche back then, if luck fits, then we can also see monks meditating, along with other fellow hikers as well.

Driving through several Tibetan-influenced valleys and local hamlets such as Chhusang, Chele, Tangbe, Samar, Syanboche, and other whitely washed mani walls, we will explore many Buddhist monasteries and Buddhist schools, enriching the educational and cultural insight at the same time. En route, the trail is dotted with several ancient sky caves, rock formations of orange and red cliffs, and highlighted mustang villages, letting us go deep dive into the rich tapestry of the culture of Tibetans. 15 May 2026: Explore the 2nd Day of the Tiji Festival

Another day, another slay to be fully immersed in the vibrant tapestry of Tibetan culture through the mesmerizing rituals and spirited celebrations of the Tiji Festival on the second day. As the festival starts at noon, we have enough time to explore the area of Upper Mustang valley in depth, as we'll visit one of the highlighted corners of Chhoser village through 1.5 hours of hiking.

Situated at 3857 meters, Chhoser village is a spiritual corner of the Mustang region, surrounded by the Tibetan plateau, a desert-like landscape, and the almighty Himalayas, and several hamlets dotted in the Tibetan villages of Bharcha, Dhuk, Gharphu, Shija, the best part is! We get to witness how such locals sustain their livelihood through animal husbandry and agricultural farming. The whole valley is dotted with blue sheep, with yaks grazing in the field, adding another experience.

Here is located Chhoser Cave, which dates back 3000 years, which is built for many reasons; burial sites, meditation, and is even a significant archaeological site to unveil the mystic history. As soon as we wake up, the first chanting echoes and chants of monks would be our first reward, and also the glimpse of ritualistic Vajrakila ceremonies in the stupa (monastery) to seek blessings and protect the valley from the evil forces. Throughout this day, we will fully thrive in the celebration as it is our last day of celebrating the Tiji Festival in Upper Mustang. In the afternoon, we can witness the lead dancer offering a prayer and dancing with the animal vibrancy, showing a short story of a historical myth of defeating evil forces in the form of Dorje Jummo. The festival concludes with a final dance called Ra Chaam, which brings peace to the kingdom.
