Comprehensive Detailed Overview:

One of the famous destinations that not only leads to the legendary Everest Base Camp but also explores the hidden valley of Gokyo, unveiling the six sacred Gokyo Lakes and the daring Cho La Pass. It is a combined and perfectly customized trek that visits these three major hot-trending destinations. So, you can experience them all in one go without visiting each individually.

This is the Everest Base Camp Trek with Gokyo Lake in Nepal. A mirthful walk that follows a clockwise trail, allowing you to avoid repeating the same path and circulating the whole region. Recognized as the Everest Circuit Trek globally, It stands out as an excellent opportunity to explore the unique aspects of the Everest region without extending the trek for several weeks.

Our 15-day Everest Base Camp and Gokyo Lake Trek itinerary begins with a nail-biting flight to Lukla, showcasing a gradual transition from green meadows to alpine tundra, with views of some of the most glorious peaks in the world. As soon as we land in Lukla, our hike begins towards Namche Bazaar through Phakding. Although it may sound like a classic Everest Base Camp Trek, rather than ascending into Tengboche and Dingboche, the path diverges towards the two tiny settlements of Dole and Machhermo, ultimately culminating in our trail towards Gokyo Valley and the vantage point of Gokyo Ri.

The journey between the Namche and Dole promises to be a cheerful hike, as we cross the first pass of this trek- Mong La Pass (3937 meters) along the captivating views of the valley of Dudh Koshi River. The majestic mountain views of Ama Dablam and Khumbila and the sounds of chirping Himalayan birds accompany us throughout the trail adding a soothing realm to our trek.

Continuing the journey, we head towards the village of Machhermo where the sixth-highest peak in the world- Mt. Cho Oyu can be seen rising highly in the clear skies. The hike is quite easy so, we can enjoy it wholeheartedly without worrying about being exhaustingly tired till the end. Machhmero is a pastureland where the yak pasture grazes stunningly in the terraced field. Known as a temporary summer homeland for Sherpas, we can hear different mythological stories about “Yeti- The Snowman” and many others from locals which remain a mystery to date. This spiritual belief makes us feel like we are somewhere out of the modern world. But this is not the end, but the beginning of this adventurous journey.

A fascinating day awaits us! As we set off on our hike towards Gokyo Lake, one of the major highlights of this trek, we pass through the five lakes in between. These large spiritual lakes normally stay frozen in autumn and sparkle like diamonds surrounded by mountains. Reaching the vantage point of Gokyo Ri from here, several of the highest peaks reward us with their beauty right under the golden hues of the snowy peaks. From this top, the Gokyo Lakes, which sit at an elevation of 4,790 meters, look stunningly beautiful like an emerald.

After an acclimatization Day at Gokyo village, our hike begins towards Thagnak via Ngozumpa Glacier which leads to one of the Three passes of the Everest region- Cho La Pass on the very next day. After passing through the diverse settlements of Dzongla and Lobuche for the following two days, the day arrives when we will finally make our step toward the foot of the almighty Mt. Everest.

Abiding this voyage, we go to Gorak Shep along the world’s deepest glacier, the Khumbu Glacier, leading us to our dream destination Everest Base Camp. Immerse yourself in this iconic spot (EBC)  that inspires and motivates every climber and adventurer, all eager to reach the world’s highest peak. After a while, we descend back to Gorak Shep and wait for the next adventure tomorrow to the vantage point of Kalapatthar (5644 m).

An exciting day lies ahead as we make our way to Kala Patthar! Feel the serenity of the unobstructed golden sunrise views over Mt. Everest with other surrounding peaks and the heavenly glaciers melting gradually changing their shape showcasing the unique side of the earth. Being all soaked up by breathtaking views we descend back to Gorap Shep and make our way to Pheriche retracing our step toward Namche Bazaar and Luka. This memorable journey of crossing the Everest Base Camp through Gokyo concludes after flying back to Kathmandu from Lukla.

Note: Although this is a 15-day trek that doesn't include a Kathmandu sightseeing tour. The good news is! We will offer you a 1-day sightseeing tour in Kathmandu for free with a free airport shuttle for the years 2025 and 2026! Grab this opportunity and make your trip successful with us.

With the circulating unfortunate situations that may arise if there’s no proper planning before the trek, it is necessary to know what time and weather conditions are safe, yet provide amazing views, to embark on any destination. Especially when you are hiking in such cold and high altitudes every day.

Even though, EBC Trek via Gokyo Lake offers stunning diverse, and unique experiences all year. Meanwhile, some seasons/months bring a challenging situation for you to trek without any hazardous situations. In this region, Autumn (Sep-Nov) and Spring season (March-May) are the best seasons for trekking as the weather is mild and the views these particular seasons offer are spectacular with the perfect blend of balanced climate. Here’s a detailed overview of these two peak seasons to make you understand more in-depth:

What to expect in Autumn (September to November)?

This season is one of the most preferred by every hiker/trekker for every trekking destination. Autumn offers a favorable climate with a mild temperature and a perfect crisp natural aroma of surroundings at every stop. As it falls right after a monsoon season there’s less risk of rainfall due to which the paths are less muddy, snowy, and slippery making it easier to hike. The skies are less foggy unlike monsoon and winter showcasing a clear visibility of mountains.

The best part about hiking during this time is that the main festivals Dashain and Tihar are celebrated in the middle of September and November. Throughout the trail, you can see locals enjoying it with visitors on their way. Guides and porters are also in their festive mood fully celebrating in the mountain areas far away from home with their beloved clients. So, who wouldn’t love to be a part of this journey that offers great weather, climate, and festive celebrations with stunning diverse views throughout the journey?

Due to this, it is one of the best peak seasons to do this trek. If you are someone who loves to enjoy hiking on a crowded enjoyable trail with a great encounter of cultural celebration, the Autumn season is perfect for you.

What to expect in Spring (March to May)?

Spring is another ideal time to hike in this region, as the weather is clear with a warm temperature offering a cool mild breeze air while ascending. The best part about this season is the trails are less crowded, unlike the Autumn season which allows trekkers to hike in a solitude and peaceful way.

On top of that, Spring brings the best about natural surroundings with blooming forests of rhododendrons in a shade of pink and red against brown landscapes. The greenery along the breathtaking views of mountains just right in front while climbing makes the hiking experience even more enjoyable.

Not only that but many wild birds like the Northern Pintail, Brahminy ducks,  Woodspine, and many others migrate here from neighboring countries like Tibet and China adding a soothing realm with its chirping sound. So, hikers have a keen interest in nature, this season fits amazingly for this trek to Everest Base Camp Gokyo and Cho La Pass trek.

Altitude Acclimatization during Gokyo Ri Everest Base Camp Trek

As soon as we land in Lukla, we stand at an altitude of 2860 meters. Reaching Namche Bazaar after leaving Phakding the altitude rises by 600 meters, and attains 3440 meters above sea level. Here, we might feel a little discomfort due to the elevation gain. However, there’s nothing to worry about as we have set this day for an acclimatization/excursion day to gradually adapt to the changing altitude.

Meanwhile, acclimatization day is not about resting all day in the tea house we will explore the huge town of Namche Bazaar exploring the Buddhist monasteries, the famous Hillary School, and several tiny sherpa settlements in the daytime. This day promises to be one of the most remarkable days, as we’ll also ascend to the “Everest View Hotel”- the world’s highest-situated 5-star hotel. From there we can see some of the highest peaks of Nepal. On this day, the choice is yours! We can also stroll around Namche visiting different local stores, and Tibetan markets, and not to forget! Bakery delicacies straight out of the hot oven. We’ve set another acclimatization day on Day 7 in Gokyo.

These excursion days are carefully set by our expert teams. So, you can adopt the rising altitude environment yet enjoy these days of exploring the best spots of the Khumbu region without feeling monotonous about staying one more night in the same place.
