If you have already arrived in Pokhara then, This 5-day Annapurna Base Camp Trek itinerary starts right from Pokhara if not then, we have transportation facility options from Kathmandu to get here. From Pokhara, we'll take a jeep and drive for a few hours to Shiwai (New Bridge) and start our first day hiking towards Chhomrong. 

On the second day, from Chhomrong, we’ll have a few hours of hiking toward the Himalaya Lodge, stay a night over there to adjust the acclimatization for ABC, and reach the destination Annapurna Base Camp passing by the Machhapuchhre Base Camp on the third day and have a wonderful night at the lap of the Annapurna, we’ll descent for Bamboo for a few hours on the next day and the last day, we’ll conclude the trek by moving from bamboo via New Bridge to Pokhara.

If you have already reached Pokhara, then your guide and porter will come to pick you up by private jeep. Right after breakfast, we’ll shortly start our 2-3 hours drive towards Siwai. Passing by terraced fields, green hills, and suspension bridges along the Modi Khola River side by side, we’ll reach Jhinu Dada. 

This village is one of the popular spots for its natural hot springs located amid the Himalayas. It is said that if you soak up in here/take a bath in this hot spring then, the skin disease is cured. We’ll take a short break here to enjoy our lunch with the view of the breathtaking mountains such as Mt. Fishtail, and Himchuli. Afterwards, ascending along the several stone staircase we’ll finally reach our destination for today, Chhomrong village.

The morning begins with a perfect sunrise glimpse over the mountains, after having breakfast we’ll start descending to Chhomrong Khola. Crossing a long suspension bridge, we start ascending towards Sinuwa passing through the lush green hills. 

Navigating our trails through several villages of Bamboo, Dovan with the heavenly peaks of Mt.Macchapucchre right on the front side. We’ll finally reach Lodge Himalaya, where we’ll see a transformation from greenery to alpine valleys dotted near the snowy peaks. Here, we might feel a little effect of rising altitude as we are not so far from reaching ABC. So, take time to gradually adapt to the changing altitude and also drink plenty of fluids.

Today, the most exciting day lies ahead of us! As we head towards ABC ascending through the Hinku Cave and Deurali. Walking uphill and downhill along the view of spectacular landscape and snowcapped peaks, we’ll reach MBC the base camp of Mt. Fishtail. 

Here, pay a little attention passing by the narrow trails as it is a landslide-prone area. Just stay behind along with the guide. After climbing for a while from MBC, the panoramic views of Annapurna South, Annapurna III, Gangapurna, and Himchuli welcome us rising highly in the blue sky making our long hike completely worth it. This is not the end! Today, we’ll be staying here in the lap of Mt. Annapurna immersing ourselves in the home of a gigantic mountain.

Today, we’ll retrace our step back through the same route as before. Descending from the dense forest, we’ll reach Bamboo enjoying the greenery surroundings. The hike might be physically exhausting as it’s all downhill but not to worry! Remember that, we came across the lap of the deadliest mountain yesterday. Keeping this in our mindset, the trek will be much easier. After 7-8 hours of long hike, we’ll finally reach Sinuwa where we’ll be staying tonight.

Abiding a bye to this holy grail region of Annapurna Descending back through a stone staircase to Chhomrong after crossing the long suspension bridge of Chhomrong Khola one last time, our trek leads us to Siwai. After resting for a while here, we’ll catch a private jeep and make our way back to Pokhara, passing by the lush forests and terraced fields along the same route, remembering the beginning of our journey.

Best Time to do Annapurna Base Camp Trek

The best thing regarding this trekking to Annapurna Base Camp is, it can be done in any season of the year. Might be wondering, why? Well, unlike any other remote trekking trails in Nepal, the Annapurna region stands out being one of the most maintained trails in terms of amenities and paths. So, this expedition can be done in any season of the year. However, the Autumn (September-November) and Spring (March-May) are the best seasons as they serve a perfect touch of adventure along with the best sightseeing experience for trekkers.

Mainly, the most preferable and loved season by trekkers is Autumn. Along the breathtaking views of mountains due to the clear skies, the temperature is quite warm during this time making hikers walk in a chill way without worrying about high humidity. On top of that, the main festivals of Nepal fall right between the Sep and October providing a meaningful insight into the rich diversity of culture.

Spring is another peak/best season for this trek as the blooming flowers of rhododendrons along the views of snowcapped peaks accompany you throughout the trails. How hard is it to trek to Annapurna Base Camp?

Walking for straight 6-7 hours each day, by matching up the pace of a regular route with a rapidly changing high altitude isn't an easy task that can be completed in the blink of an eye. 

However, the trails are well maintained apart from some of the steep rugged sections making the trek moderate. If you are someone who has prior experience then this trek then the long day hiking wouldn't be a big deal. But, don't overlook the trekking trail as it is both mentally and physically tiring. Just make sure that you are not feeling any effect of altitude sickness, by checking the oxygen level with an oximeter every single day.

While referring to the challenging sections, thinking that this trek is just for pro hikers and not beginners is a myth. This Short Annapurna base camp trek can be done by anyone even beginners. Being prepared by engaging in some physical exercises like walking with some loads, swimming, yoga (for mental focus) or even going up and down by staircase would be a great help if you haven't hiked before.

Don't expect some lavish room infrastructure, it is quite basic and cozy enough made out of wood and white stones. As much as we ascend higher, we have limited options to choose rooms from. During your stay, blankets, pillows, single bedroom will be provided. 

In fact, getting a room is a huge deal during peak season but, don’t worry everything will be arranged before the trip starts there won’t be any compromise on your comfort and safety throughout your trek.

Foods

Almost every tea house on the route to Annapurna Base Camp serves top-notch quality foods with a wide variety of menus to choose from. From Western, continental, and Asian to local cuisines you’ll get everything whatever you are looking for without compromising your taste buds. 

Just make sure to order a day before (dinner time) for the early morning breakfast, so you can have the breakfast as soon as possible without any waiting. You’ll be provided a menu given by the tea house, just order it and then it will be freshly cooked within a few minutes. 

Meal options: Tibetan bread, French toast served with butter and jam, Chapati (roti) with curry, Omelette, pizza, burger, sandwich, pasta, vegetable, any type of curry (veg or non-veg), Nepali noodles, momos and "the ultimate Dal Bhat".

Note: If you are vegan, lactose intolerant, or allergic to some foods, please say it beforehand to make sure that the meals are prepared accordingly.

Travel Insurance

Although this trek is short and doesn't even exceed a week to week. But, hiking on such a high altitude day isn't an easy task. There is always some kind of risk circulating the mountains. There are no such major accidents that have happened in the Annapurna Sanctuary, however, just to make sure that everything goes right and to make you hike tension-free. Travel insurance is highly recommended and It will be best if you do the insurance in your home country. Please make sure that it covers cases like thefts, evacuations, and medical insurance.

FAQs

For this trip, you’ll need 2 permits: Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) and TIMS Card. The good thing is! We’ll arrange these permits on behalf of our clients before the trek starts.

 

Well, the essentials packing list is quite basic. Firstly remember to carry warm clothes like dry-fit t-shirts, hiking pants, trekking boots, sunscreen high SPF, one slipper, socks, warming caps, and jackets. These are basic, please add another packing list as per your choice.

 

Drinking water is easily available at every teahouse where you can simply buy a mineral water bottle but make sure to do proper disposal of plastic bottles and can also fill boiled water at teahouses paying extra charges. Always carry a water bottle and water purification medicine to prevent unwanted health issues.

 

The trek to the Annapurna Sanctuary is considered moderately difficult neither too hard nor easy. Although the hike isn’t hard proper physical fitness, stamina, and endurance power of hiking 5-6 hours per day are necessary as it reaches an altitude level of 4,131 meters that could cause altitude sickness to some people. The hiking route is slightly narrow and rocky paths might be difficult above all the weather is completely unpredictable and the temperature can be decreased where the
