Everest Three Passes Trek Overview
The rugged, least-touched Everest Three Passes Trek, which is covered by Everest National Park in the Khumbu region, is one of the most adventurous and breathtaking trekking trails in Nepal. This three-pass trek in Everest follows the clockwise circuit direction, following Renjo La, Cho La, and Kongma La, reaching the Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthar at 5545 m, the highest altitude. Our 16-day itinerary is basically the short version of the standard Three Passes Trek of 19 days, perfect for those who are short on time and want a quick, thrilling mountain excursion.
This Everest 3 Pass Trek is a complete journey of adventure, remoteness of the Himalaya, and Sherpa culture within the Khumbu valley of the Everest region. It can be smoothly done, with prior preparation and training, which do not include any technical climbing or sections, yet it offers breathtaking panoramic mountain views, glaciers, and attains iconic viewpoints of Mount Everest (8848.88 m). You also get to explore the famous turquoise Gokyo lakes, the largest himalayan glacier, Ngozumpa, and climb the Gokyo Ri (5457 m), apart from the high passes and base camp only. Followed by the clockwise route, it makes your body well acclimated, ready for the next day's adventure, and ascent to the higher altitudes, safely and hassle-free.
Trekking Route - Clockwise Direction
We take the scenic flight to Lukla from Kathmandu Airport or Ramechap Airport and walk to Namche Bazar within 2 days. After acclimatization day at Namche, the trekking route to Everest Three Passes leads us to Gokyo Village via Renjo La Pass, 5388m (17,673ft), which is our first high pass in this trek. The sight trip around Gokyo Lakes, and the Gokyo Ri climbing make our rest day awe-inspiring.
The trek continues to Chola Pass 5380m (17,646ft) with further traversing through a beautiful Gokyo Valley trek route by passing Thaknak Village. We will have thrilling views of the Himalayas one after another, such as Lhotse, the towering peak Ama Dablam, Nuptse, Cho Oyu, including the world’s highest peak, Everest, which is called “Jhomolungma” in the Tibetan language.
We will rejoin the Everest Base Camp trekking route in Lobuche and continue walking to Gorakshep. The Gorakshep is the highest-placed lodge where we sleep overnight. The return excursion to Everest Base Camp and the next day's early morning hiking to Kalapathar viewpoint to see the sunrise would stay in our memory as highlights for a lifetime.
We head on to the highest pass in this trek, Kongma La Pass, 5535m (18,155ft), and descend to Chhukung Valley, also known as Imja Valley. We can meet mountaineers who are at Chhukung for Island Peak Climbing.
At the end of this journey, we traverse through Tengboche Village, visit Tengboche Monastery, Namche Bazar, Phakding, and Monjo Village.
