Early in the morning, the guide will come to pick you up at 7 AM and after having breakfast in Pokhara, we will take a private jeep towards Ulleri. The drive leads us through the peaceful scenery of Seti Khola Valley showing us small villages alongside green hills and agricultural farms. We pass through small towns like Phedi and Nayapul, where our permits will be checked at the checkpoint. Continuing our drive, we pass  Birethanti, Hile, and Thikhedhunga while the Modi Khola river and green hills accompany us side by side.

 After 3-4 hours of jeep ride, we reach our starting point of the trek to Poon Hill, Ulleri which is a famous for its challenging 3300 steps.  After lunch we start hiking through forested areas and small villages before seeing the breathtaking Annapurna range alongside Hiunchuli, and the famous peak of Machhapuchhre. The journey leads us beyond Banthanti and Nangethanti until we arrive at our daily endpoint, Ghorepani which showcases gorgeous Annapurna mountain range perspectives with mountain peaks of Machhapuchhre, Dhaulagiri, and Hiunchuli lining the horizon. Enjoying the local cultural setting with the warm hospitality of the inhabitants, we rest in a local teahouse.

Today, we start moving toward Poon Hill early at 4 AM to hike for an hour until the sunrise. We will witness the beautiful panoramic view of nineteen prominent peaks, including Annapurna I and Annapurna South, together with Annapurna III, Tukuche Peak, Nilgiri South, Himchuli, Lamjung Himal, Mardi Himal, Dhampus Peak, and Tilicho Peak. The snow-capped mountain peaks illuminate under the golden sunrise light as they produce a perfect postcard picture. We return to Ghorepani for lunch after experiencing this magical moment.

We will travel down from the Deurali Pass before reaching Banthant as our path passes through thick rhododendron forests and crosses mountain streams and steep agricultural lands, and small settlements of local shepherds. Traveling 30 minutes uphill along the Bhurungdi River brings us to Tadapani, which rests as a quiet Gurung settlement amidst lush forested hills adjacent to cool waterfalls. It is the famous gateway to Ghandruk and Chhomrong for the Annapurna Base Camp Trek. Looking over the mountains, we enjoy a peaceful time in Tadapani.

On our last day of the trek, we descend towards Ghandruk, saying goodbye to Tadapani. Following the stone steps trail leading through terraced farms of millet and barley and forests of bamboo and banana grooves, we reach Ghandruk, which is a rich cultural hub of the Annapurna Region. This Gurung settlement combines historical Gurkha history with traditional stone architecture along with carved wood window decorations. The Gurung Museum exhibits various antique items along with historical artifacts and jewelry from the Gurung culture. Interesting, we can also try wearing the traditional Gurung attire and click amazing photos as the Annapurna South becomes our backdrop. We will take our time to the immense beauty and culture of this place, before taking a local jeep to return to Pokhara.

The jeep drive takes us to Naya Pul, Birethanti, and Lumle with breathtaking scenery along green hills, terraced farms, and local villages. Travelling down the Seti River Valley, we can admire a proper view of the Annapurna range along with views of Machhapuchhre and Lamjung Himal slowly approaching the busy city of Pokhara. Finally, our short Poon Hill Trek ends whith golden sunset view of Machhapuchhre mirrored on the Phewa Lake.

Trekkers’ Information Management System (TIMS) Card: NPR 2,000 (approximately $15) for foreigners. For SAARC nationals, NPR 1000 ($8).

Essential Tips for the trek to Poon Hill (Transportation, WIFI, Personal Expenses, Communication, Packing List, Drinking Water)

  • If you haven't arrived in Pokhara yet and are still here in Kathmandu, you can simply contact us to arrange transportation. It will be arranged at no additional cost, only the transportation fare will be charged. 2 options: either a flight to Pokhara or a comfortable sofa bus drive to Pokhara.
  • As for communication, there won't be any problem; every tea house has wifi connectivity, and along the route while hiking, you can use the data pack that costs only NRS 50- NRS 100 to buy the 4G internet. Make sure to buy an NTC SIM Card here in Kathmandu or Pokhara for the data use after entering the Annapurna region; there are no shops available selling it.
  • For the gears and packing stuff, you do not have to go over the board; just fit in the essentials, like dry-fit t-shirts, pants, down jackets, hand towels, and other necessities, and then you are good to go. Overpacking can cause difficulties while ascending. If you hire a porter, no worries! he can carry up to 22 kgs of your bagpack.
  • Please make sure to do the money exchange while being in Pokhara, if possible, then exchange it to NRS (nepali ruppes), if you have dollars then there won't be any problem. Just carry either NRS and USD estimating the daily expenses.
  • En route, try to consume hot fluids like sherpa stew or garlic soup that help you to warm up the body and avoid the coldness that could potentially lead to altitude sickness.
