What are the best seasons to climb Lobuche East Peak?
Knowing the perfect weather, climate and season is the most important factor that could either make or break your peak expedition. Undoubtedly, there are always risks circulating in mountain areas especially when we are thinking about Lobuche Peak which exceeds the height of 6000 meters. Well, we do not want to make our dream unsuccessful just because of the bad weather hassle, do we?
In short, Autumn and Spring are the ideal seasons for this climbing adventure as the weather becomes clear offering a pleasant mix of temperatures for any expeditions. Unlike, other seasons (Monsoon and Winter) which generally bring heavy snowfall and strong winds making it a complete hassle for a successful climb.
Spring (March-May)
Spring season is one of the favorable periods for this expedition offering stable weather that acts as a safety net and clear mountain views for trekkers at the same time. Generally, the route is crowded with climbers dreaming of conquering the tip of the peak however it makes our hiking trail and expedition journey fun befriending adventurers like us.
Besides that, at the base camp, the temperature usually ranges between 5 to 15 degrees Celcius providing a cozy and avoiding the hassle of a windy environment. So, trekkers can rest/acclimatize properly at the base without worrying much about critical ascent.
At the summit (top point), it is quite expected to feel the coldness of air as it falls to -10 degrees up there. Meanwhile, with the warming gears, it can be handled easily and the freezing soothing air from the peaks reminds us that we are finally at the mountains. If you love colorful trails adorned with blooming flowers of rhododendrons and lovely green hills this ideal time fits perfectly for you.
- Long duration of sunny golden hours to gradual ascent, acclimatize and extend the summit hours without any rush
- Clear views of mountains, crusty landscapes, and blooming red and pink rhododendrons insights throughout the trail
- Perfect climatic conditions blending with the appropriate weather
- Less fogginess due to the low rate of snowfall offering a clear vista of mountains such as Mt Tharmseku, Everest, Makalu, and many others
Autumn (September-November)
As Autumn falls right after the monsoon season it simply ends the risk of heavy snow/rainfall providing the beauty and clarity of post-monsoon climatic conditions. Due to this, the high chances of avalanches, landscapes, and high stormy winds become a rare case that offers climbers a steady and secure ascent.
In the daytime, the temperature rises from 5 to 12 degrees Celsius only at the base camp (resting point before the final climb) giving a suitable environment for the preparation. Reaching the summit, the lowest temperature decreases till -5 degrees to 0 degrees which is normal and bearable for adventurer seekers. Although it is considered a crowded peak season just like Spring, it promises to bring a unique serenity with the accompany of new people that unfold a new story of every climber/trekker's life.
On top of that, the main festivals of Dashain and Tihar fall between September and October allowing you to immerse in the rich festivals celebrated in the Himalayas and conquering the Lobuche East without any hassle.
- Low risk of avalanches, stable landscapes, and consolidated snowpack help you to succeed the mountaineering by avoiding the risk of accidents at high altitudes
- Low rain and snowfall allow to trail on the dry routes without facing slippery paths
- Great meaningful festival encounters such as Dashain, and Mani Rimdu throughout the route
- Glimpse of harvests of crops by the locals in the terraced fields
How difficult is Lobuche East Peak Climbing?
Although it is a combined trip from Everest Base Camp with Lobuche Peak Climbing, it falls under a moderately challenging peak expedition. It stands out as a category summit point where beginners can push their limits and reach the top. Meanwhile, there are some sections to be considered as ascending through the glacier and snowy trails isn’t a stroll around the amusement park.
Firstly, The main difficult point comes when climbers start scaling the Lobuche East through a steep 45-degree ascent, you must know “how to take a grip of crampons and ropes through the vertical slopes”. That is why basic physical fitness and prior climbing training are required. Other than that, the summit can be easily conquered as this expedition is done by climbers as a training ground to climb more heights above 6500 meters on upcoming days.
Secondly, before reaching the base camp of Lobuche Peak, you must hike for 4-5 hours each day and sometimes even 6 hours someday. It can be physically tiring to some who have never done even a basic level of hiking. Lastly, accommodating at the tea house and tent peak (2 days) before reaching the final point of the peak can be mentally frustrating for some who have genuinely zero ideas about Himalayan and mountaineering life.
Nonetheless, it is a moderate level of climbing peak which can be easily achieved with pre-basic training sessions, proper climbing gears, properly tailored acclimatization days, and not to forget! High level of determination and willpower.
What are the requirements for Lobuche Peak Climb?
If you think that it's a head-scratching hassle for any procedure of peak climbing in Nepal, then the good news is! it is as simple as you actually never expected it to be. First and foremost, to climb the peak of Lobuche East, one is required to get a permit (NMA-Nepal Mountaineering Association) along the Sagarmatha National Park entrance fee and not to forget! Lhamu Rural Municipality Permit.
Secondly, please make sure that you are having a good proper energy-building balanced diet. As we all are familiar, with how foods reflect our mindset and the endurance power within us. For that, we just need to get a proper diet for 1 month that not only levels up our stamina level but also somehow affects our mindset with positivity.
Thirdly, note down to get a basic knowledge of "how to use an ice axe, steel crampons, and carabiners through some YouTube videos". Even though we will have a brief discussion and some training sessions as well by our guides (who will lead you to the summit), it is better to get basic/simple knowledge before the adventure begins. So, that will help you to know and address some important queries of your curiosity to us and the guide.
Last but not least, Do not forget about Travel insurance, it is one of the most crucial things to consider if you are seeking any scaling/hiking that exceeds the altitude of 4500 meters. Remember that, we are ascending to such higher sections around the mountain areas, where unseen situations are always circulating. Make sure it covers helicopter evacuation, emergency medical service, theft, etc if possible from your own home country.
Everything including the permits required for the trip will be arranged by us after your booking is confirmed. If you have any further queries then, please let us know anytime, We are here to guide you 24 hours.
Altitude Sickness
Well! we all are familiar with how there is always some kind of risk circulating the mountain areas. Heading up to an elevation over 19,680 feet isn’t an easy task that can be completed in the blink of an eye.
In every step, there are always some sort of complications that every climber must face. Just like that, “Altitude Sickness” is one of them. Whenever the air gets thinner, the height increases by hundreds of meters there is a high possibility of gaining the AMS (Acute mountain sickness).
So, you might be wondering how can we get to know if we are being affected by high altitude. If you are feeling some sort of dizziness (difficulty in breathing), severe headache, increasing heartbeat, exhaustion (mental and physical tiredness), or nausea then you are most likely to get AMS.
However, the acclimatization days are set for 2 days at Namche and Dingboche in this itinerary so, you can steadily adapt to the changing altitude meters. Not only that we have set 1 contingency day so, we can get rest if any difficulties such as mild symptoms/bad weather conditions occur without ruining the planned schedule.
Essential Preventive Guidelines to Avoid Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS)
No matter how pro or beginner you are, the effect of high altitude doesn’t come with surety. As said “Prevention is always better than regret and cure”. Thus, the first and foremost thing every climber must consider is to follow preventive guidelines before and during the Lobuche East Peak Climbing Expedition.

- From the lower to higher regions, avoid smoking cigarettes or any tobacco and drinking hard drinks that significantly cause a rapid increase in heartbeat and lead to altitude sickness immediately.
- Please note to carry dry gingers (which can be found in Namche) and drink hot fluids such as lemon water, and ginger hot water and avoid coffee moving at higher sections.
