In this small continent of Asia, Nepal caters to the tastes and preferences of every enthusiastic individual seeking to unleash new adventurers like an Aladdin granting the wish. From the world’s deepest gorge to the tallest Mount Everest, From the off-beaten trails, and luxury adventure to climbing a peak for beginner, semi-beginner, and pro climbers. Want to quench your thirst for reaching the top and pushing off limits like every thrill seeker? Lobuche Peak Climbing stands out being a perfect choice to freshly start your mountaineering voyage.

Detailed Overview:

Do you know Nepal is not only home to the highest mountains but also a famous profound destination to take over a trekking peak expedition below 8000 meters? Just like that, Lobuche Peak is one of them touching the high skies at its summit within the Khumbu region. It has two profiles, Lobuche West standing at an elevation of 6145 meters, and Lobuche East (6119 m.), just8.4 miles away from Everest and resides above the Khumbu Glacier. So, one can only imagine how it holds a meaningful significance captivating more than thousands of climbers/trekkers across the globe. Our goal is to conquer the summit point of Lobuche East Peak- 6119 meters as it is easy less technically challenging, and doesn't require an expedition permit.

Taking a step back in time, there wasn't any summit record of the Lobuche East Peak even after 30 years of the 1st success of global's highest peak. A real game changer came when it was first climbed by the American team led by Laurence Nielson with the guidance of Ang Gyalzen Sherpa. Since then Lobuche East Peak Climbing has been rated as one of the hot trending destinations due to the discovery of its straightforward route, and basic pre-preparation, which acts as a training ground for beginners who are craving to ace some higher altitude pinnacle in the future. In simple words, it is beginning to tick off your bunch of bucket lists for a thrilling adventure waiting to turn into reality.

The overall trip isn't like a stroll around amusement of course! there are some hurdles at some points, but reaching the top and being surrounded by heavenly glaciers and breathtaking mountains such as Ama Dablam, Pumori, Lhotse, Makalu, and Everest itself make every sweat, breath, and penny one hundred percent worth it.

While we might perceive this journey as solely focused on ascending a trekking peak in Nepal, it is much more than that. Wondering why? Right after we land in Lukla from Kathmandu, the trail begins from Phakding and traverses through many settlements such as Namche Bazaar, Phiriche, Tengboche, Dingboche, and Khumjung village- home of sherpa family.

Hence, you'll get a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to get a lively experience of Sherpa culture and tradition. Do you know that these incredibly warm-hearted locals are the shadow of every climber throughout their climbing expedition? Accommodating at their tea house, you will get to hear many fascinating stories and laughable jokes that motivate and enlighten your soul in every possible.

Apart from that, before you reach the Lobuche Peak summit, this trip also takes you to the Everest Base Camp- the launchpad from where many climbers dream get success. Not only that, but you will also reach the vantage point of Kalapatthar (5545 m), the highest point anyone could ever reach without a climbing permit. Standing there the panoramic 360-degree views of Mount Everest reward you shining brightly under the golden rays of sunlight.

Thinking about signing up for this expedition? Wait no longer! It takes only about 1.5 hours but, reaching there the best views of Ama Dablam, Lhotse, Nuptshe, Pumori, and many other surrounding peaks can be seen. Sipping a hot coffee or chocolate from here creates a long-lasting memory.

Option 2: We have another meaningful hike as well toward the village of Khumjung. Reaching here, we must trek around 3-4 hours, but it will be one hundred percent worth it as we’ll cover 3 major renowned spots, “Khumjung Monastery”- recognized as the placement of Yeti Skull, snowman whatever you call it. Other major attractions- Khumjung Sherpa Museum showing the historical significance of Sherpa culture.

After a short break, we’ll ascend toward the forested area of rhododendrons and pines. The uphill might be quite more frustrating than the beginning days, however, the breathtaking vista of Tharmseku, Nuptshe, Everest, and the first glimpse of Lobuche make our tiring hike rewardable.

Walking for straight approx. 5 hours, we will reach Tengboche monastery- an ancient 20th-century gompa famous for its rich significance of Tibetan Buddhism. Paying a visit here, we can see ancient statues, architecture, thangka paintings, and many more. Overnight stay in Tengboche.

Ascending uphill once again, after crossing the Ghat (bank) of the river we will pass through the small villages where locals are engaging in harvesting at terraced fields on the backdrop of the Himalayas.

After a continuous hike of 5-6 hours, we will reach Dingboche where we will rest overnight. The walk is quite strenuous ascending straight at two points, however, the views of snowcapped peaks get closer making the trip worth the difficulties.

Starting our hike, passing by the lush green forests the trail leads us to Debuche from where we’ll reach Pangboche. Paying a visit to one of the oldest 17th century “Pangboche Monastery” is said to resemble the sherpa community standing highly at the backdrop of Mt. Tharmseku.

What are the best seasons to climb Lobuche East Peak?

Knowing the perfect weather, climate and season is the most important factor that could either make or break your peak expedition. Undoubtedly, there are always risks circulating in mountain areas especially when we are thinking about Lobuche Peak which exceeds the height of 6000 meters. Well, we do not want to make our dream unsuccessful just because of the bad weather hassle, do we?

In short, Autumn and Spring are the ideal seasons for this climbing adventure as the weather becomes clear offering a pleasant mix of temperatures for any expeditions. Unlike, other seasons (Monsoon and Winter) which generally bring heavy snowfall and strong winds making it a complete hassle for a successful climb.

Spring (March-May)

Spring season is one of the favorable periods for this expedition offering stable weather that acts as a safety net and clear mountain views for trekkers at the same time. Generally, the route is crowded with climbers dreaming of conquering the tip of the peak however it makes our hiking trail and expedition journey fun befriending adventurers like us.

Besides that, at the base camp, the temperature usually ranges between 5 to 15 degrees Celcius providing a cozy and avoiding the hassle of a windy environment. So, trekkers can rest/acclimatize properly at the base without worrying much about critical ascent.

At the summit (top point), it is quite expected to feel the coldness of air as it falls to -10 degrees up there. Meanwhile, with the warming gears, it can be handled easily and the freezing soothing air from the peaks reminds us that we are finally at the mountains. If you love colorful trails adorned with blooming flowers of rhododendrons and lovely green hills this ideal time fits perfectly for you.

  • Long duration of sunny golden hours to gradual ascent, acclimatize and extend the summit hours without any rush
  • Clear views of mountains, crusty landscapes, and blooming red and pink rhododendrons insights throughout the trail
  • Perfect climatic conditions blending with the appropriate weather
  • Less fogginess due to the low rate of snowfall offering a clear vista of mountains such as Mt Tharmseku, Everest, Makalu, and many others

Autumn (September-November)

As Autumn falls right after the monsoon season it simply ends the risk of heavy snow/rainfall providing the beauty and clarity of post-monsoon climatic conditions. Due to this, the high chances of avalanches, landscapes, and high stormy winds become a rare case that offers climbers a steady and secure ascent.

In the daytime, the temperature rises from 5 to 12 degrees Celsius only at the base camp (resting point before the final climb) giving a suitable environment for the preparation. Reaching the summit, the lowest temperature decreases till -5 degrees to 0 degrees which is normal and bearable for adventurer seekers. Although it is considered a crowded peak season just like Spring, it promises to bring a unique serenity with the accompany of new people that unfold a new story of every climber/trekker's life.

On top of that, the main festivals of Dashain and Tihar fall between September and October allowing you to immerse in the rich festivals celebrated in the Himalayas and conquering the Lobuche East without any hassle.

  • Low risk of avalanches, stable landscapes, and consolidated snowpack help you to succeed the mountaineering by avoiding the risk of accidents at high altitudes
  • Low rain and snowfall allow to trail on the dry routes without facing slippery paths
  • Great meaningful festival encounters such as Dashain, and Mani Rimdu throughout the route
  • Glimpse of harvests of crops by the locals in the terraced fields

How difficult is Lobuche East Peak Climbing?

Although it is a combined trip from Everest Base Camp with Lobuche Peak Climbing, it falls under a moderately challenging peak expedition. It stands out as a category summit point where beginners can push their limits and reach the top. Meanwhile, there are some sections to be considered as ascending through the glacier and snowy trails isn’t a stroll around the amusement park.

Firstly, The main difficult point comes when climbers start scaling the Lobuche East through a steep 45-degree ascent, you must know “how to take a grip of crampons and ropes through the vertical slopes”. That is why basic physical fitness and prior climbing training are required. Other than that, the summit can be easily conquered as this expedition is done by climbers as a training ground to climb more heights above 6500 meters on upcoming days.

Secondly, before reaching the base camp of Lobuche Peak, you must hike for 4-5 hours each day and sometimes even 6 hours someday. It can be physically tiring to some who have never done even a basic level of hiking. Lastly, accommodating at the tea house and tent peak (2 days) before reaching the final point of the peak can be mentally frustrating for some who have genuinely zero ideas about Himalayan and mountaineering life.

Nonetheless, it is a moderate level of climbing peak which can be easily achieved with pre-basic training sessions, proper climbing gears, properly tailored acclimatization days, and not to forget! High level of determination and willpower.

What are the requirements for Lobuche Peak Climb?

If you think that it's a head-scratching hassle for any procedure of peak climbing in Nepal, then the good news is! it is as simple as you actually never expected it to be. First and foremost, to climb the peak of Lobuche East, one is required to get a permit (NMA-Nepal Mountaineering Association) along the Sagarmatha National Park entrance fee and not to forget! Lhamu Rural Municipality Permit.

Secondly, please make sure that you are having a good proper energy-building balanced diet. As we all are familiar, with how foods reflect our mindset and the endurance power within us. For that, we just need to get a proper diet for 1 month that not only levels up our stamina level but also somehow affects our mindset with positivity.

Thirdly, note down to get a basic knowledge of "how to use an ice axe, steel crampons, and carabiners through some YouTube videos". Even though we will have a brief discussion and some training sessions as well by our guides (who will lead you to the summit), it is better to get basic/simple knowledge before the adventure begins. So, that will help you to know and address some important queries of your curiosity to us and the guide.

Last but not least, Do not forget about Travel insurance, it is one of the most crucial things to consider if you are seeking any scaling/hiking that exceeds the altitude of 4500 meters. Remember that, we are ascending to such higher sections around the mountain areas, where unseen situations are always circulating. Make sure it covers helicopter evacuation, emergency medical service, theft, etc if possible from your own home country.

Everything including the permits required for the trip will be arranged by us after your booking is confirmed. If you have any further queries then, please let us know anytime, We are here to guide you 24 hours.

Altitude Sickness

Well! we all are familiar with how there is always some kind of risk circulating the mountain areas. Heading up to an elevation over 19,680 feet isn’t an easy task that can be completed in the blink of an eye.

In every step, there are always some sort of complications that every climber must face. Just like that, “Altitude Sickness” is one of them. Whenever the air gets thinner, the height increases by hundreds of meters there is a high possibility of gaining the AMS (Acute mountain sickness).

So, you might be wondering how can we get to know if we are being affected by high altitude. If you are feeling some sort of dizziness (difficulty in breathing), severe headache, increasing heartbeat, exhaustion (mental and physical tiredness), or nausea then you are most likely to get AMS.

However, the acclimatization days are set for 2 days at Namche and Dingboche in this itinerary so, you can steadily adapt to the changing altitude meters. Not only that we have set 1 contingency day so, we can get rest if any difficulties such as mild symptoms/bad weather conditions occur without ruining the planned schedule.

Essential Preventive Guidelines to Avoid Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS)

No matter how pro or beginner you are, the effect of high altitude doesn’t come with surety. As said “Prevention is always better than regret and cure”. Thus, the first and foremost thing every climber must consider is to follow preventive guidelines before and during the Lobuche East Peak Climbing Expedition.

  • Make sure that you are slowly ascending walking at your own pace along the guide without panicking. Remember that “Consistency is the Key”, Do not over-push yourself as it can even make the worst situation.
  • If you feel any sort of difficulties inform your guide immediately then, please take a rest on a “Contingency/Reserve Day”. Simply speaking take a day break before the summit.
  • Ascending at higher elevations each day makes the throat dry and severe headaches as well (if things get worse) so, to prevent that please hydrate yourself with plenty of fluids.

FAQs

Lobuche is a tiny settlement where many tea houses and lodges sit. It is also known as the famous stopping point before reaching Everest Base Camp or any summit peak located near it. From here, there is no sign of accommodation until and unless trekkers adjust tent camps in between the high camp and the base of the peak before scaling the mountain.

To reach the top point of the peak on the summit day, it takes approximately 8-9 hours and come back to the Lobuche Base Camp. For the duration of the overall trip starting from Kathmandu, it usually takes 14-15 days for the fast pace. However, with gradual ascent and proper acclimatization including the Everest Base camp with Lobuche Peak Climbing itinerary can last for 17-18 days. Nonetheless, it depends on the pace, preference, and how the package is set accordingly.

If pre-planning and acclimatization aren't done properly then, exceeding the height 6000 m. is no joke and could lead to AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness). To avoid such kind of adverse situation firstly, please make sure that you carry all the essential items of clothing and mountaineering tools. Get acclimatized properly listen to your body condition and act accordingly lastly, hydrate yourself and avoid alcoholic or caffeine throughout the trail and before the trip starts (if possible).

It falls under one of the easiest to moderate trekking peaks in Nepal. The expedition first reaches Everest Base Camp (EBC) gradually adopting the changing high altitudes. Then, you will retrace the route back to Lobuche, and head to the high camp and base.

However, the difficult section comes ascending at the peak by the sloppy and steep sections by the 45-degree vertical angle. Nonetheless, if you are well acclimatized, the climbing guides are there for you in every challenge ensuring safety. With the right gear and proper physical and mental mindset, this expedition can surely be achieved.

There’s no gender or age for any sort of hiking/climbing as long as you have strong willpower and some basic physique fitness. If you are thinking about whether you can do the Lobuche East Peak Climbing being a female then, do not worry. Being regarded as a “Rounder” summit peak it can be easily conquered and of course! Many females have submitted this mountain with proper planning and preparation. You just need proper guidance before the trip and then you are surely good to go.

Well! There are two faces of this climbing peak; Lobuche East and Lobuche West. Being a part of Mt. Everest itself, East One stands high at 6119 meters and the other one at 6145 m. Meanwhile, the summit point is the Lobuche East Peak, as it is technically less challenging and easy to climb without any hassle.

There’s nothing to worry about essential gears and equipment you can either buy here at Thamel, Kathmandu, or the route of Namche and Phakding. For renting, there are some procedures to follow! We at Destination Himalaya will guide you to that with the best cheap price possible at local shops. Not only that, we also provide a Sleeping Bag, Duffle bag, Oximeters, and Down jacket throughout the trip without any additional cost.

If you are referring to safe scaling then, doing the summit in winter and monsoon is highly not recommended. During these seasons, the weather is highly unpredictable and drops the temperature to less than -10 degrees Celsius which is quite unbearable at the top point.

The windy air, sloppy terrains, and steep sections along the slippery paths make it only a 50% chance of success. Hence, the best seasons are Autumn and Spring due to safety concerns and jaw-dropping clear views of mountains. If you have some good experience of climbing of more than 6000 meters before then, you are seeking one even at off periods to push your limits and unleash new adventure.

To climb any mountains, the only concern that must blow up in the mind is of course! If the guides have any sort of experience. To answer your curiosity please note that, you don’t have to worry about it, you will be provided pro sherpa climbers who have led to an even more dangerous summit as well Mt. Everest. They are NMA (Nepal Mountain Association) registered guides who have gone through many hurdles and passed each examination by exceeding 6000 meters of height.

Well! The communication is quite stable and good within the Everest region. However, from the base camp to the Lobuche Peak summit you can use the satellite phone to communicate that will be carried by our guide.
