Nar Phu Valley Trek with Annapurna Circuit Overview
One of the rugged and untouched Nar Phu Valley Trek with Annapurna Circuit is in the Annapurna region of Nepal which opened in 2002 for trekkers. The area has restrictions to trek by The Nepal Government, so we require a special trekking permit to enter and explore this hidden valley.
The two valleys – Nar and Phu named Nar Phu off the Annapurna Circuit route is a unique trek. You have the opportunity to explore exclusive landscapes, Tibet-like people and religion, and flora fauna including majestic Himalayan vistas.
The trekking route to Nar Phu Valley with Annapurna Circuit begins from Dharapani after a long bus ride from Kathmandu. One-day walking from Dharapani reaches us at Koto which is close to Chame, the district headquarters of Manang. Traversing through rugged trails, Buddhist monasteries, thin canyons, and remote villages makes this trekking stunning.
Continue following this unexplored path to Ngawal after crossing Kang La Pass situated at the height of 5,320m/17,450ft and reach Manang. The captivating rock formation and mountain peaks above 8,000m such as Dhaulagiri (8,167m/26,788ft), Annapurna I (8,091m/26538ft), and Manaslu (8,163m/26,775) are towered views.
A rest day in Manang would be ideal after such a long distance walking and store body strength for further adventurous trekking to Muktinath-Jomsom via Thorong La Pass, or we can walk around the village or short day hiking to glacial Lake Gangapurna for leg stretching.
We catch the Annapurna Circuit trek route again at Ngawal and continue the trek to Thorong La Pass via Yak Kharka, Ledar, and Thorong Phedi-Thorong La High Camp. Some trekkers will take a route to Tilicho Lake which is the highest-located glacial lake in the world and the lake is made out of Tilicho glacier which came from Tilicho Peak. The long descent to Muktinath may make us exhausted. We stop over at Kagbeni to visit the old monastery. The Kagbeni Mustang is the gateway of the Upper Mustang trekking area. The final section of this journey is from Kagbeni Village to Jomsom.
The trip concludes after we take a scenic domestic flight to Pokhara or we can continue trekking through Birethanti – Pokhara by passing Marpha, Rupse Chhahara, Tatopani, and Ghorepani Poonhill.
