There is no doubt how wide a range of packages are all around the internet to reach the foothills of Mt. Everest. However, This Jiri to Everest Base Camp Trek stands out being a top-notch trekking trail that not only takes you to the dream destination- Everest Base Camp but also allows you to follow the footprints of legendary summitters who conquered the world's highest peak.

Going a little back in time, no one ever thought anyone could ever reach the tip of the highest peak until Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay Sherpa made history in the year 1953 motivating the whole world. A real game changer for EBC Trek via Jiri finally began when Nepal opened its arms for international trekkers to reach the base camp after its initiation in 1980 from Jiri Valley.

Mostly, in the present day, trekkers tend to take a nerve-wrenching lukla flight to Everest Base Camp Trek. Meanwhile, The classic Jiri to Everest Base Camp is a must-loved 19-day journey that begins with a 6-7 hours scenic drive from Kathmandu to Jiri the gateway of none other than Everest also known as “Switzerland of Nepal”. As the name says, for the first few days it follows the raw, authentic, unchanged green hills, terraced fields, and several villages of local sherpas residing in the Solukhumbu region.

Sherpas are known for their bravery, warm hospitality, and amazing mountaineering skills. So, while accommodating here do not miss out on listening to their bravery stories, laughable jokes, and of course! Their generosity connects you deeper to the Himalayas lifestyle. Passing several charming settlements such as Sete, Junbesi, Nunthala, Bepsa, and Chheplung along the Bhote Koshi River and Dudh Koshi River side by side. Finally, we will connect the route of regular Everest Base Camp after we reach Namche Bazaar via Phakding entering the Sagarmatha National Park.

From Namche Bazaar, we march our step towards Tengboche to Dingboche, and Lobuche which is a "full of cultural and historical retreat itself". We pay a visit to one of the oldest and largest monasteries within this region- Tengboche Monastery where we can see monks meditating and their prayers of soothing sounds that blow with a sink of fresh air of mountains. Here, we can see many chortens, mani walls, architecture, thangka paintings, and deities statues that surely transport us somewhere in an ancient era.

Reaching Everest Base Camp, a launchpad of many dreamers who manifest to conquer the world's highest mountain we can feel their energy as here we can see many summitters gearing up to achieve their one-time goal. The Khumbu Glacier view along the way from Gorakshep to EBC is truly mesmerizing along with the surreal landscapes and mountains.

While we may think that, this is the end of the captivating views, a hike to Kalapatthar awaits us standing proudly at an elevation of 5545 meters. Ascending here early in the morning truly rewards us with the panoramic views of several mountains such as Mt. Pumori, Lhotse, Nuptshe, Ama Dablam, Tharmseku, and Everest itself exceeding the height of 8000 meters under the golden hues of sun rays. Standing here we can genuinely feel, why it is such a renowned expedition that makes our every step worth it. Retracing our step back to the trail passing by Khumjung and Pheriche village, our Jiri to EBC Trek concludes after we take a flight back to Kathmandu.

Thinking about signing up for your trip to the base camp? Wait, no longer! Destination Himalaya Treks offers this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity with a carefully tailored itinerary set with proper acclimatization days and a route that visits every corner of the Everest region ensuring your safety and enjoyment.

Acclimatization Days with excursions to meaningful spots

This Everest Trek from Jiri itinerary is set well to both categories of hikers whether you are a beginner or experienced trekker, as we are going to have 2 acclimatization days out of 19 days. Meanwhile, acclimatization day doesn't mean spending all day stretching our legs but a fun side trip to famous destinations by gradually adopting the increasing meters which helps us to prevent the risk of altitude sickness at the same time.

Our first acclimatizing day is set at Junbesi where we will hike for 2-3 hours towards the famous Phungmuche village, paying a visit to one of the ancient gompa, Thuptencholing monastery. Leaving footprints at Everest Base Camp and Kalapatthar- 5545 m./18192 ft.

As being said "nothing is achieved without some challenges", just like that after we trek straight for several days, the best reward is standing at the launchpad of none other than Mt. Everest with the spectacular views of the Khumbu Icefall and Khumbu Glacier with the surrounding peaks of Nuptshe, Lhotse, Cho Oyu, and many others.

But, this is not the end! On the very next day, we will hike up to the astonishing Kalapatthar- a point anyone could ever reach near the world'shighest peak without a climbing permit. Standing here with an unobstructed scenery of none other than Everest itself under the golden hues of sunlight adding color to the almighty peak makes us feel like we are completely out of this industrialized world.

Essential Information

Jiri to Everest Base Camp Trek Difficulty

Trekking from it is a moderately challenging trip. The low-altitude area of this trek from Bhandara to Chulping to Lukla is more physically daunting as there are several long ascents and descents including Lamjura Pass. Walking every day like 6-7 hours through a rugged trail and annoying numerous uphill and downhill is an extreme physical challenge.

The high altitude area above Namche of Everest region is moderate and easy going likely past days we did within Gaurisankar Conservation Area from Jiri. It can be a challenge to hike above 4000m such as Dendboche, Lobuche, Gokakshep, and Kalapathar. We possibly have some difficulty in sleeping due to the cold and elevation at Lobuche and Gorakshep.

However, EBC Trek from Jiri can be easily completed with some prior preparation before the hike. If you are someone who have some basic physical level of stamina and a strong mindset, then this trek can easily be completed.

Best time for Jiri Everest Base Camp Trekking

However, it is highly recommended to have some gingery items (if you aren't alergic to it) to warm up your body and build the stamina level.

Travel Insurance

Although, trekking to Everest Base Camp Trek from Jiri isn't a challenging hike with proper amenities along the way. We highly recommend you get travel insurance for this trip as we are ascending each day at high altitudes with some risk circulating. By mentioning risk, we don't mean that it is a dangerous hike but as we know that we will be on the trail of mountain areas, so there is always a high challenging factor of altitude sickness.

However, this Jiri to Everest Base Camp itinerary is set with 2 proper acclimatization days so, there is less chance of major altitude sickness. But, as it is said "It is better to be prepared than regret" Insurance acts as our safety net to hike more freely without worrying much about medical services. On top of that, Nepal medical emergency evacuation can cost hundreds of dollars, so make sure that your travel insurance includes emergency evacuation and medical services over 4000 meters.

Internet and Communication facility

This trekking area is facilitated with internet Wi-Fi and mobile signals in most places, especially above Lukla. There could be unstable mobile signals in low-altitude areas during your walk. So recommend you buy a local SIM card either Nepal Telecom or NCELL SIM card. We have to give a passport copy and a photo to get SIM and better if we top up sufficient balance to purchase data packets for internet purposes.
