Follow the ancient route once Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay Sherpa passed through, to conquer the summit of none other than Mt. Everest in 1953 AD. Mark your footprint on the classical original route to the lap of the world's highest peak by opting for Jiri to Everest Base Camp Trek, which passes by the traditional Sherpa villages, that remains untouched with tibetan culture and explore the bustling city of Namche, and varied climatic zones from dense woodland to ancient monasteries in Tengboche, Pangboche, before ascending to the highest vantage point of 5545 meters at Kala Patthar.

Jiri to Everest Base Camp (EBC) Trek Overview:

There is no doubt that a wide range of packages are all on the internet to reach the foothills of Mt. Everest. However, the Jiri to Everest Base Camp Trek stands out being a top-notch trekking trail that not only takes you to the dream destination- Everest Base Camp but also allows you to follow the footprints of legendary climbers who conquered the world's highest peak.

Going a little back in time, no one ever thought anyone could ever reach the tip of the highest peak until Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay Sherpa made history in the year 1953, motivating the whole world. A real game changer for EBC Trek via Jiri finally began when Nepal opened its arms for international trekkers to reach the base camp after its initiation in 1980 from Jiri Valley.

Mostly, in the present day, trekkers tend to take a nerve-wrenching Lukla flight to the Everest Base Camp Trek. Meanwhile, this classic Everest Base Camp Trek from Jiri begins with a 6-7 hours scenic drive from Kathmandu to Bhandara via Jiri, the gateway of none other than Everest, also known as “Switzerland of Nepal”. As the name suggests, for the first few days, it follows the raw, authentic, unchanged green hills, terraced fields, and several villages of local Sherpas residing in the Solukhumbu region.

Sherpas are known for their bravery, warm hospitality, and amazing mountaineering skills. So, while accommodating here do not miss out on listening to their bravery stories, laughable jokes, and of course! Their generosity connects you deeper to the Himalayas lifestyle. Passing several charming settlements such as Sete, Junbesi, Nunthala, Bepsa, and Chheplung along the Bhote Koshi River and Dudh Koshi River side by side. Finally, we will connect the route of regular Everest Base Camp after we reach Namche Bazaar via Phakding entering the Sagarmatha National Park.

From Namche Bazaar, we take our step towards Tengboche to Dingboche, and Lobuche, which is a "full of cultural and historical retreat itself". We pay a visit to one of the oldest and largest monasteries within this region- Tengboche Monastery, where we can see monks meditating and their prayers of soothing sounds that are blown by a stream of fresh air from the mountains. Here, we can see many chortens, mani walls, architecture, thangka paintings, and deity statues that surely transport us somewhere in an ancient era.

Reaching Everest Base Camp, a launchpad of many dreamers who manifest to conquer the world's highest mountain, we can feel their energy, as here we can see many summiters gearing up to achieve their once-in-a-lifetime goal.

While we may think that this is the end of the captivating views, a hike to Kalapatthar awaits us, standing proudly at an elevation of 5545 meters. Ascending here early in the morning truly rewards us with the panoramic views of several mountains such as Mt. Pumori, Lhotse, Nuptse, Ama Dablam, Tharmseku, and Everest itself, exceeding the height of 8000 meters under the golden hues of the sun's rays. Standing here, we can genuinely feel why it is such a renowned expedition that makes every step worth it. Retracing our steps back to the trail passing by Khumjung and Pheriche village, our Everest Base Camp Trek via Jiri concludes after we take a flight back to Kathmandu.

Wanderers, do not step back and make your way to the land of the Himalayas - Nepal, dust off your hiking boots that have been lying there in your wardrobe without any usage, and venture out on this once-in-a-lifetime journey and leave your footprints here, achieving new heights by opting our carefully crafted Jiri to Everest Base Camp Trek itinerary.

Note: Someone who doesn't want to return via Lukla flight can consider for Everest Base Camp Trek by jeep ride, which follows both the In and Out trailhead via road, avoiding the flight.

Avoiding the risk of delay of the Lukla Flight

We know how crowded the trail gets when peak season hits the perfect weather. Due to this, the Lukla flight mostly gets delayed, lasting from 2 days to even 4 to 5 days, which can be mentally frustrating if we have a return ticket flight booked back to the home country. Even if we haven’t then the delay can be irritating; that's not how we want to start our adventure, do we? Well, this trek to EBC Trek via Jiri avoids the thrilling Lukla flight and begins the journey with a drive of 7-8 hours till we reach Jiri and Bhandar which acts as a guaranteed departure and a scenic ride passing by stunning landscapes, and terraced fields, and mountain views following the less crowded trail.

The best part is! They are less influenced by the modernized infrastructure, offering a perfect glimpse of past generation Sherpa lifestyles, culture, and traditions. Here, we can make the best out of it by interacting with them one-on-one and hearing their amazing, beautiful jokes, stories, and maybe myths of the peaks circulating about.

After we make our way to Phakding, we will enter the Sagarmatha National Park, which doesn't need any introduction as it stands being one of the richest in diversity conservation areas. Hence, we will explore 2 major conservation parks that will surely make our trip filled with eye-catching views and peaceful trails far away from crowded areas.

Leaving footprints at Everest Base Camp and Kalapatthar- 5545 m./18192 ft.
