Essential Information

Best time for the Langtang Valley Trek

When planning the Langtang trek, understanding the best time plays an important role in making your trip successful and hassle-free so make sure to make the booking only during a favorable trekking season. Every season has its charm and challenges but to make the trek smoother, the perfect ideal seasons are Spring (March, April, May) and Autumn (September, October, and November) because within these months the skies are crystal clear, showing splendid mountains and the diversity of flora bloom perfectly, adding grace to nature. In contrast, trekking to Langtang during the monsoon (June and July) is quite risky as the trails are muddy and slippery whereas in the winter (December, January, and February), this region gets very cold, and snow covers the higher parts of the trek. Many of the guesthouses close up for the winter and re-open in late February to March at Langtang Valley. However, it is possible to trek the Langtang region on the fringe of the season in late February/early March and it can be quite beautiful with snow cover.

Langtang Valley Trek Difficulty

Langtang Valley trekking is an easy track adventure in the Langtang region compared to any other popular treks where different groups of people whether solo, family, or friends can easily embark on this trek without any hinge of doubt. Although there are several ascends and descends with some narrow and rugged paths as well, it doesn’t require any mountaineering skills or prior trekking experience making the Langtang trek a beginner and a kid-friendly trek.

Besides this, high elevations, changes in climate, and unavailability of all major facilities are other factors that make this trek difficult but authentic at the same time. Moreover, we highly advise you to participate in exercises, day hikes, and physical training months before starting the trek as it requires an average of 5-6 hours of walking each day. Most importantly, make sure to take medical consideration as the trek leads you to an elevation of 4984 meters that may cause you altitude sickness. However proper planning, assistance, and acclimatization before and during the trek make the Langtang trek easy-going yet safe.

Preparation for the Langtang Valley Trekking

Even though the trek to Langtang Valley is short and easy, you must be physically and mentally prepared before embarking on this amazing journey. Heading towards the mountain area means ascending every day with a high level of elevation for which high stamina and being physically fit are mandatory as trekkers have to walk for at least 4-5 hours each day. To strengthen the body you can do some sorts of cardio like running, cycling, and hiking with some kgs of loads in the bag that makes the trek smoother for beginner trekking as well.

Being mentally prepared for the 8-day Langtang trek is more crucial than being physically fit as the trekkers feel the rise of altitude weather changes and tiredness. So, you must be mentally ready, create a positive mindset and great enthusiasm, and be fearless while trekking in Langtang.

Meals during Langtang Valley Trek

Langtang Trek takes you to a high elevation each day, so it is necessary to fill your body with foods with proper fiber, protein, carbohydrates, and many other nutrients to make your body energetic and tummy happy. Throughout, the trek you’ll get proper 3 times meals per day with a wide range of menu options consisting of Asian and Western cuisines that cater to the taste of all the people trekking to the Langtang region. Although every lodge serves a variety of cuisines, we also highly recommend you try their local foods like Yak Cheese, Gundruk, Sherpa stew, Tsampa, Butter tea, Churpi (chewy snack made from yak milk) and many more.
In the morning menu, there are different options available like Local breakfast (Tibetan roti and buttermilk) English breakfast, Veg, and non-veg soups with tea and coffee, etc. which are provided before the hike. During lunch and dinner time, the foods are made according to your preference from the menu like Dal Bhat, Ramen, Nepali noodles, Fried rice, non-veg and veg curry, dry meats, Thenduk, momo, Spaghetti, Chapati with curry, Chowmein, etc. So, you don’t have to worry about food throughout the trekking. Just make sure to eat fully to increase your stamina level for walking.

Note: Although there are large options available, we highly encourage you to avoid alcoholic beverages, heavy dairy products, Caffeine items, and red meat (hard to digest and not fresh). Throughout the trek, it is kindly advised to drink hot beverages like Ginger Tea, Lemon Tea, Black Tea, Hot lemon, Warm Honey water, and garlic soup (essential) to maintain body warmth in cold high altitude temperatures. Drinking water in the Langtang region is easily available. One can fill up the water at the teahouses paying an extra amount or purchase bottled water but it is convenient to carry a water bottle and water purifying kits for safety.

Accommodations for Langtang Trek

Our Langtang Trek Package covers all the accommodation throughout the trek. We’ll stay at a teahouse for 7 days with basic amenities but get to experience the life of the Himalayas in an authentic way that makes this trek even more meaningful as you will see the day-to-day activities of Tamang and Tibetan people more closely.

In the Langtang Valley, you’ll be accommodated in a basic room with the best amenities possible in the region.
