Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek Overview:

Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek leads you to both the North and South Base Camps of Kanchenjunga that showcase multiple-angle views of the third-highest mountain in the world, Mt. Kanchenjunga soaring at the height of 8586 meters within Kanchenjunga Conservation Area. As this trek to Kanchenjunga circles every corner of the iconic peak, through the remote and isolated area, it is one of the treasures in the Eastern Himalayas, that stands out being one of the most pristine off beaten adventure in Nepal, just to let you know it also connects The Great Himalayan Trail - hence, one can imagine how varied landscapes one gets to navigate through during this trek.

Located at the eastern side of the country, the Kanchenjunga Trek route lies within a restricted area, with limited (basic) amenities, which comprise several ascents and descents and cross over the high mountain passes of Sele La (4482 meters) and Sinion La (4646 meters), showing the ice walls, glaciers, pristine lakes, and alpine surroundings. The scenery shifts to the rugged beauty of Alpine tundra, leading you to the spectacular close-up views of several glaciers, including the famous Yalung Glacier and the Kanchenjunga massif, which highly resembles Gautam Buddha in a meditative pose from many sides.

Daily, the trekking route of the Kanchenjunga Circuit demands 5 to 7 hours of hiking, through diverse terrains, rugged sections, and high passes as well, hence one must have prior experience of high elevation treks. On top of that, it requires a special permit to get through this restricted area, making it an unexplored trek and keeping away large crowds of trekkers from this hidden gem. Also, do not get confused, as this trek is also popularly known as  "Kanchenjunga Base Camp,"  and the trailhead remains the same.

Besides the breathtaking views, it is also believed that many peaks that reside here are highly protected by the Yeti (snow monster) from any dangers. The locals worship Mount Kanchenjunga as five celestial Tathagatas (Buddhist deities). So, no one ever dares to touch the summit point of this mountain, and the remaining 5 feet below the sentimental values of people. These mythological and many other spiritual insights add a unique experience to the trek.

Trekking in the Kanchenjunga region was closed to trekkers until mid-1980, whereas in the present day, the region is protected by the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area project, where beautiful fauna and flora are still in their natural state today. To get through the trek, a restricted area entry permit is mandatory, provided by the Ministry of Nepal Immigration Department.

Our Kanchenjunga Circuit trek itinerary is a complete package of adventure, and scenically wild experiences, that include visits to Kanchenjunga South Base Camp and Kanchenjunga North Base Camp from Ramche and Lhonak, with an acclimatization hike to Janu Himal Base Camp (4700 m) and Nupchu Pokhari - 4954 meters, before attaining the base camps, so that you get to gradually adopt the rising elevation without any risk of Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS).

With the perfect infusion of the rich tapestry of Tibetan communities such as Lepcha, Rai and Sherpa, off-beaten wilderness, and varied landscapes where ancient villages, mountains, Himalayan flora, and fauna reside, it would be no debate to mention Kanchenjunga as one of the most preserved gems worth more than diamonds, in the eastern Himalayas, Nepal.

Are you ready to unfold the new memories in life by accessing the remote and restricted territorial land to exist? Well, then, do not wait any longer! You can make your bookings for Kanchenjunga Trek 2025 and 2026 with us, where your safety, comfort, and flexibility are handled by the professional expert teams!

What makes the Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek for 2025 and 2026?

Unlike other popular treks that have been booming all over the internet these recent years, Kanchenjunga Circuit is one of the most pristine landmarks located in Eastern Nepal, which lets you experience the remoteness, local communities, thriving festivals, isolated corners with no trace of facilitated infrastructure, showing a distinct and ancient tea house just like 90's back in old days.

The side trips explore the hidden treasures of Jannu Base Camp, Nupchu Pokhari, and reach the height of 6100 meters - Drohmo Ri, and cross the high mountain passes of Sele La Pass, hence, Kanchenjunga Tea house Trek is an once in a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to unveil the beauty of the rugged landscapes and the unchanged culture without compromising the panorama of the mountains.

Experience the Off-Beaten Adventure and Ancient Tea House Comfort

Being surrounded by the towering mountains and glaciers, Kanchenjunga Conservation Area is one of the most protected and restricted territories of Nepal, which requires a special permit, limiting the footprints in the trailhead. That defines that, if you are opting for this Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trek, then you will be rewarded with an opportunity to pass through the untamed beauty of the highlands, exploring the rugged, remote beauty, and one of the treasures of the Himalayas. Unlike other popular routes here in Nepal, like the Annapurna Base Camp Trek, the Langtang Trek, you can expect lesser crowded trailhead, throughout the journey, providing a realm of peace at the same time, without being modernly influenced by civilization.

Throughout the journey, this trek traverses through the ancient tea houses that remained unchanged and passed through inheritance with the slatted roofs, old mystic designs, colorful stones, and is surrounded by the colorful prayer flags signifying its Tibetan culture. While other routes are being heavily infrastructure with different routes and developed rapidly, this hidden gem of the Kanchenjunga region remains the same, opening a gateway to every explorer who loves to seek unblemished trails with a distinct cultural mosaic.

Unparalleled Mountain Views

Trekking to Kanchenjunga means unveiling the beauty of the Himalayas each day. From the first day of the Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek, you’ll be surrounded by stunning landscapes with the majestic vista of Kanchenjunga massifs and Kumbhakarna Range from our first stop, Taplejung, even if it’s from far away. Upon reaching the North and South Base Camps, you will witness the majestic views of Kanchenjunga face-to-face with the stunning glaciers falling from the peaks, along the dramatic ice wall.

Hike to the iconic Kanchenjunga North Base Camp (Pang Pema) at 5140 meters

Without attaining the base camp of the northern side, the Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek remains incomplete, which begins from Lhonak to Pang Pema, surrounded by ice walls, rocks, and sparkling glaciers. After reaching the Kanchenjunga North Base Camp, the highly towering peaks of the northern face - Mount Kanchenjunga at 8586 meters, which stretches to other Himalayan peaks such as Nepal Peak, Pyramid Peak, Kirat Chuli, Twin Peaks, Tengkoma, and many others. Meanwhile, along the route, if luck is in your favor, then you might witness the rare, elusive snow leopard, through the remote and raw landscapes, making the Kanchenjunga Trekking more wild.

Meaningful Side Trips to Janu Himal Base Camp (4701 m) and Nupchu Lake at 4954 meters

One of the major perks of the Kanchenjunga Trekking is the side excursion from Khambachen (4050 meters) to the Janu Himal Base Camp located at the height of 4700 meters, which takes almost 6 to 7 hours round trip; however, it acts as a preparation to ascend to higher elevations on the following day,s adopting the increasing altitude.

The trek begins with the stone, rugged trailhead, and slowly, the landscapes gradually open up, with the glacier (a huge one), just at the right side, and the Tibetan hamlet (like a monastery), dotted with colorful prayer flags, and Tibetan mantras, where hikers, locals, and monks do prayers and seek blessings before heading to the sacred holy Jannu Himal - considered as a deity in Buddhism. After reaching Jannu Base Camp (4700 meters), the adjacent Mount Jannu (7710 meters) surrounds you with towering high cliffs, valleys, ice walls, and the panoramic vista of Mt Jannu (Kumbhakarna), and other holy mountains as well.

At the same time, if you still have strength and want to boost your adrenaline level, then you can continue the hike to Nupchu Pokhari - one of the highest glacial lakes of Kanchenjunga that soars at a height of 4954 meters. Starting from a gradual ascent, rugged terrains, and crossing over glacial rock sides and alpine valleys, you will be encircled by the panorama of the Jannu Himal, Ghabur Himal, Nupchu Peak, Sarphu Peak, and the Pholesobithonje range at 360 degrees as well. Whereas, the holy glacier lakes, sprinkle and reflect the high mountains, along the colorful Buddhist prayer flags, flapping in the wind.

Hike to Kanchenjunga South Base Camp (Oktang) - 4732 meters

After covering the northern side of the base camp, the trail follows toward Kanchenjunga South Base Camp from Ramche, also known as Oktang, at an elevation of 4732 meters, which demonstrates the pristine landmarks from terraced fields, to high mountain yak pastures where yaks graze, and the shiny glacial moraines, through some rocky and icy sections. Then, after reaching the base camp, the southern face of the almighty Mt. Kanchenjunga stands right in the front with other peaks such as Kabru Range, Talung, and the shiny Yalung Glacier. If you've arrived earlier, then the sunrise view over the mountains will leave you speechless.

Cultural, Spiritual, Beliefs, and Thriving Festivals

If you have ever had the urge to experience the rich culture of remote areas, then trekking to Kanchenjunga is the perfect one for you. Besides being best at its natural diversity, it shows you the way of livelihood of different ethnic groups like Sherpa, Rai, Bhutia, Lepcha, and many more. At the beginning of this trek, you’ll see great insights into the Rai and Lepcha's famous rituals and beliefs, where they perform songs and dances celebrating their connection with nature. The Lepcha community is something distinct from others that can only be found in Kanchenjunga. They wholeheartedly respect and worship the rivers, mountains, and landscapes as deities of the Gods. It is also said that they communicate with nature and maintain shamanistic practices to get blessings. Sounds fascinating, right?

While moving to the middle to upper regions, you’ll witness the communities of Sherpa and Bhutia residing in the lap of stunning landscapes and mountains. Staying at their lodges or tea houses, you’ll get the warmth of hospitality even at such high altitudes, out of genuine respect and love that offers a homely feeling here. From the starting point to the ending point, the Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek presents a wide range of customs, traditions, regional languages, local foods, etc., where you’ll stay, rest, see their culture, and interact with them.

Here are some of the festivals that you will explore, at the peak seasons of spring and autumn in the Kanchenjunga region:

  • Mani Rimdu: Celebrated in Autumn (peak seasons), in between October and November, it is one of the major festivals of Sherpa communities, full of colors and vibrant celebrations, done in the form of mask dances, playing ancient musical instruments, which represent the victory over negative energies (evil) by good forces, hosted in monasteries and local kanchenjunga vital corridors as well.
  • Lhosar (Tibetan New Year): Known as the Tibetan New Year, that is celebrated in Spring season (Feb - Early May), that highly depends on the lunar calendar, and the beginning of the new year, it is hosted in himalayan buddhist communities; including the Sherpa, Tamang, across Tibet, Bhutan and Nepal as well especially, at the himalayan side.

Can I opt for the Kanchenjunga North or South Base Camp without completing the whole circuit?

If the timing and your experience level don't fit as per the challenges of the full Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek, then, do not settle yourself back, as a complete 19 days is too much to give for, which takes almost 3 weeks to spend on the isolated, remote area, we offer the feasibility of choosing either the north or the south base camp of Kanchenjunga, that fits as per your preference and timing as well.

As the circuit one visits both the base camps, to shorten up the trip, you can opt for either of those, which both promise to offer the best pristine Himalayan highland, and explore the highlighted corner of the world's third-highest peak - Mount Kanchenjunga. If you are someone who loves the snowy, frosty peaks panorama, alpine landscapes, shining glaciers, and the thrilling ice wall, along with the opportunity to witness the dramatic six climatic zones, the Kanchenjunga North Base Camp Trek (Pang Pema) is for you, which can be completed within 14 days.

On the other hand, for more cultural exploration, one can opt for the legendary  Kanchenjunga South Base Camp Trek; however, looking at the brighter side, this trip is relatively shorter, perfect for individuals with tight schedules, as it gets completed within 12 days, starting from Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal. Even though it is relatively short, it traverses through the lush green woodlands, to local hamlets, and terraced fields, letting you connect with the Lepcha and Rai communities, and still reaches the southern base camp.

No matter what your destination is, both the base camps of North and South access the off-beaten pathway of Eastern Nepal, where the remote tea houses, dramatic landscapes, and mountains with the local people's hospitality will awestruck you. We at Destination Himalaya Treks and Expedition offer you the flexibility of customizing your Kanchenjunga Trekking itinerary as per your choice and time, being matching your budgeted cost at the same time. As per the government rules, a Restricted Area Permit (RAP) and Kanchenjunga Conservation Area Permit (KCAP) can only be possible if you are trekking through a registered trekking agency like Destination Himalaya Treks and Expedition must trek along with at least one other person, and that doesn’t include the guide and porter. There are only two permits required for the Kanchenjunga Circuit trek mentioned below:

  • Kanchenjunga Restricted Area Permit: USD 20$, NPR 2000/- per person
  • Kanchenjunga Conservation Area Permit: USD 30$, NPR 3000/- per person

Kanchenjunga Trek Solo Vs Group for 2025 & 2026

Are you alone and don't have a partner to travel with, and looking forward to venturing out on the Kanchenjunga Trek solo in 2025 or 2026? Well, if that's the case, then just take a note that solo trekking to Kanchenjunga is not allowed and has been banned by the Government of Nepal, considering the fact, that, it falls under one of the most isolated parts of the country, with no trace of tea houses in many points and most of all, faciliated with limited aminities. To hike within this restricted area, the Government of Nepal has implemented the law that one needs a trekking partner to hike within this region, including 1 registered licensed guide and 1 porter; hence, solo trekking is banned, and the permits and other logistics must be managed through a registered trekking local agency.

However, looking on the brighter side, you can do a private Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek, along with just a guide and a porter, without any group joining, as the group join remains rare in this expedition, unlike other treks, as it is a long, long journey where the time doesn't align and fits for group joining. While you go solo trip, it gives you a first-hand experience to explore the best out of the majestic highlands, untamed Himalayan exploration, and a time for solitude and peace, and most of all, choose your itinerary and time as well without any fuss of matching other departure dates.

What can be done for the private trip is to add a ghost permit, where the restricted area permit (the main permit) will be arranged by enlisting 1 other trekker (who doesn't exist), and you just have to pay USD 20 per head every week for the extra Restricted Area Permit, which might be on a costlier side, but trust us, it is the only way that you can go solo, along with guide legally. Besides, you can do group joining for the Kanchenjunga Trekking as well, but you must wait for the departure dates. Group joining benefits in splitting the cost of transportation, lodging, guides, and porters, which goes on the budget-friendly side.

No matter whether you go on a solo Kanchenjunga trek or opt for joining the group, we at Destination Himalaya Treks and Expedition can customize your trek to Kanchenjunga Base Camp for 2025 and 2026 with ease, arranging all the logistics, from restricted area permits, licensed guides and porters, managing the itinerary as per your pace and ensuring safety.

Essential Information

Where is Kanchenjunga situated? Geographical Location

Amid in the Eastern part of Nepal, bordered by India, Sikkim, and Taplejung, Mt. Kanchenjunga resides within the sub-range of the Himalayas, named as the world's third-highest peak after Everest and K2. Surrounded by high landscapes with the wetland of the Tamur River on the west and Lhonak just to the north, and thrilling Jongsang La Pass, it stands out being one of the most remote areas and an isolated region highly preserved by local communities and hidden in between the high terrains.

Being situated in a protected and restricted territory, within Kanchenjunga Conservation Area, this Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek takes a full round of the almighty peak, showing a distinct view and unique perspective of the mountains associated here. One of the great facts about Mount. Kanchenjunga is the summit of its peak tip remains unattainable, due to distinct myths, and can only be attained below a few meters, continuing the faith of the mountain being one of the gods for the locals.

In the present day, the Kanchenjunga Trek is attracting adventure seekers for the great wilderness and exploration of one of the untouched gems amongst the world. Due to not being easily accessible, due to special permits, trekking to Kanchenjunga has remained only a dream for many wanderers.

Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek Best Time

Considering the fact that this trek to Kanchenjunga falls under the most isolated terrain, where the weather conditions are always fluctuating, it is always a wise thing to know the best timing of the year and be prepared accordingly. To do this, Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek, the ideal seasons are Spring in between the months from March to May, and Autumn, from mid-September to November. To consider this span of the year, there are several reasons attached to it, and the first and foremost reason is the safety and easy trailhead. During this period, there is a low chance of precipitation, rainfall, and snowfall that eventually makes the route easy to navigate with clear views of mountains and landscapes at the same time.

Meanwhile, if you are planning to do the Kanchenjunga Trek, in the off-seasons of winter and monsoon, then there are several things to consider beforehand, as due to the heavy snowfalls and rainfall at lower trails, of course! The route becomes 10x times challenging to pass through with slippery pathways and blockages of the passes and to the base camp of Kanchenjunga due to heavy snow blockage. Every four seasons has distinct features to offer and has ample perks to hikers, hence no matter what season you opt for between Spring and Autumn, it will truly be a rewarding expedition with success to reach the lap of the world's 3rd highest peak.

Why Spring (March, April, May)?

Trekking to the Kanchenjunga circuit in spring means you'll be head over heels, with the blooming rhododendrons in the first half of the trail and with the colorful flowers at higher sections. The temperature doesn't fall below -10 degrees Celsius even at night in the upper trailhead, which means the temperature is mild and the nights are not too freezing, and cozy enough to get settled in at the heating tea house area within the Kanchenjunga region. Despite being one of the peak seasons, unlike any others, you will find few crowds with no disturbance of overflow of fellow hikers, allowing a solo me time and finding a realm in nature.

Perks of Autumn (September, October, November): Culture Meets Scenic Views

Autumn is truly another peak season and most preferable among hikers, as it falls right after the monsoon. You can expect the temperature to be moderate with no sign of rainfall at the same time, offering clear weather and climate throughout the Kanchenjunga region. That's not the end yet! Many festivals like Dashain, Tihar, and the most thriving Futuk festival that is only celebrated within the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area, fall under in between Autumn, making it one of the ideal times of the year. With the perfect fusion of the panorama of mountains and glacier-like Yaglung throughout the trip and the boasting cultural celebration, you will love every bit of hiking here in Autumn.

Why avoid the Summer and Winter seasons?

The trek can be done during the summer season as well, but it will require a higher level of preparation and also longer days, as due to the snow blockage, you might require contingency days, like the summit of peaks.

Whereas, Kanchenjunga Circuit Trekking during the winter is somewhat similar to the summer season, as there is heavy snowfall in higher altitude areas, due to which many tea houses might get closed as the trail is quite empty during this time of year. But, if you have a group to trail, then you can go during this season well with your group, but you must be well-prepared with a proper itinerary. For that, we can discuss it beforehand with the team to ensure your trek goes smoothly and safely without any hurdles.

For more information, you can take a deep dive into our blog entitled: Kanchenjunga Trek Best Time, which shows the tips for packing and tackling challenges in seasonal variations, with weather and temperature conditions breakdown.

Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek Difficulty

Stretching around 200 kilometers, rising to an elevation of 5143 meters, makes the Kanchenjunga Circuit Trekking one of the strenuous and wild treks in Nepal with limited amenities. Simply speaking, the Kanchenjunga Round Trek difficulty level also depends on individual perspective and experiences. If you are into adventurous journey that craves to push limits, passing through rugged terrains, high glaciers, high passes, with 6 to 7 hours of hiking per day, then well! This trek is for you.

Starting the trek from Sekathum - the beginning point of the walking trail- is quite easy to navigate; meanwhile, after crossing Ghyabala (3000 meters), the terrain becomes more rugged with several ascents and descents demanding almost 7 to 8 hours of hiking on some days. In several days, this Kanchenjunga Trek takes you through higher elevations of 4000 to 5000 meters, and reaches the highest elevation at Kanchenjunga North Base Camp - 5410 meters, so some things and preparations must be considered beforehand.

Similarly, the high concerning concerns remain the possibility of AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness) at such high altitude and the changing weather conditions that frequently change drastically, unlike other treks, this expedition does require a proper fitness level and acclimatization days set properly to make the journey safe and pass by smoothly. To know about the challenges and tips to overcome them, you can check our blog entitled:What challenges to expect while trekking Kanchenjunga and preparation to overcome them?

Risk of Altitude Sickness and Preventive Guidelines for Kanchenjunga Round Trekking

As this Kanchenjunga Trekking reaches such high elevation, over 5000 meters, the risk of altitude sickness is expected if you are not prepared well enough beforehand. AMS usually hits you when navigating through thin air and higher terrains, which is unusual than the city area that we spend our everyday lives in. 1 small mistake, and then the possibility of Acute Mountain Sickness increases, we are stating that Kanchenjunga is a dangerous route, but such uncertanties of health comes with no sound of bell at such mountain areas.

So, you might be panicking and wondering whether you could get one during this expedition. Well! If that's the case, then do not settle back as our Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek itinerary is carefully tailored with professional expert teams with a gradual ascent of 500 to 600 meters per day, making sure that you are adapting to the rising elevation. We do not encourage you to go over the top and rush the pace; that could even worsen the situation, which is why we've set the itinerary accordingly.

Apart from that, there are some tips and tricks that you must follow for the successful Kanchenjunga Trek that we highly suggest considering the weather, long hours of expedition, and the highest elevation to tackle the risk of AMS:

  1. After crossing 3500 meters, you might feel the mere symptoms of AMS, like mild headache, fatigue, dizziness, tiredness, or insomnia, then do not worry and just inform the guide and follow some medication, as the condition might not be too serious (in case of mild AMS). However, if you get a serious/severe headache, skin completely turning pale, losing control and vomiting, and trembling of legs continuously, then descend asap! If things don't turn out to be serious, then you will be evacuated via helicopter (with your travel insurance).
  2. If you do not have prior 5000 meters altitude experience, then it is highly suggested to take "DIAMOX", with the medication by your doctor, to avoid mountain sickness.
  3. Try to stay hydrated throughout the expedition by drinking 3-4 litres per day. If that sounds too much, then substitute it with ginger hot soups or any other soupy items, which warm up the body and work as hydration as well, avoiding mouth dryness at the same time.
  4. Maintain your level of pace, and do not go over the board thinking about matching the pace of other hikers; remember that everyone has different experiences and endurance levels. Hence, walk along with the guide slowly, gradually, and intelligently.
  5. Before 1 week, and throughout the trek, avoid consuming too much caffeine, smoking, and alcoholic beverages. It could worsen overall health at high altitude and lead to serious mountain sickness.
  6. Choose a professional licensed trekking company along with an experienced trekking guide who can craft your packages as per your fitness level and experience who can promptly respond in case of emergencies.

How to be prepared for the Kanchenjunga Trek?

Before opting for the Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek Nepal, no matter whether you are a pro or just a beginner, there are ample preparations that must be done, and the first and foremost necessity is physical preparedness. As this Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek leads you through several ascents and descents with 6-7 hours of long-duration hiking, you must level up your fitness level or just stretch your muscles if you have prior experience. Some training must be done either at home, through YOUTUBE, or just nearby gyms that prepare you and make you fit enough to persist the hike.

While talking about the physique, we simply do not mean being all bulked up, creating six-pack abs and good biceps, but just make sure that you are at least a moderate level of fitness for a long expedition with higher elevation each day. So, how to be ready? Make sure that you engage in cardiovascular activities like running 5 to 7 miles each day on a treadmill, or just walk with a high incline level, or just do weight training like leg workouts, to strengthen the leg muscles, or any sort of exercises that you are comfortable with.

If gymming is not your forte, then the best way to prepare for the Kanchenjunga Circuit Trekking is you just do home workouts by ascending and descending through a staircase, carrying a backpack of 8-9 kgs or a hiking bag with clothes stuffed in. Or else, you can just engage in short hikes nearby or just stroll around parks, hitting 10,000 steps per day.

On the other hand, even though there will be a professional guide throughout the trek, it’ll be great if you do proper research regarding the trail route. In addition, we can also about the favorable season, estimated cost, distance, elevation, and most importantly, accommodation, which would be the best choice for you with our management team.

Before heading towards the Kanchenjunga Trek, please pay 100% attention to your health and medical conditions to prevent any health issues as the Kangchenjunga region accessibility is limited and remote, the immediate access to health care isn’t easy there so it is highly recommended to do a whole body check-up right before embarking on this journey and be prepared according to the guidelines of a doctor.

Accommodations during the Kanchenjunga Circuit Trekking

Being isolated and located within a restricted area, the Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek goes through a full tea house trek with basic lodging facilities, and also passes by ample camping sites. However, as the route is well facilitated with tea houses and lodges, camping isn't required, but if you want, you can choose the camping option as well. As the number of teahouses/lodges is fewer, and at far distances from each other, the tea they serve is basic and comfortable enough, and hygienic enough to settle in.

However, you can have difficulty adjusting to these lodges, but you'll surely enjoy your stay due to their rawness and the warm hospitality of distinct communities. Since there are fewer teahouses in these trails, sharing of rooms and toilets must be done. The toilets are of the eastern style and are outside the teahouse. In the lower sections, you can get a separate room with an attached bathroom as well.

But when moving to the higher areas of the Kanchenjunga Circuit, each room consists of two beds with shared washrooms. Since this is trekking in the mountains, some adjustments must be made. For instance, there are no electricity sockets for charging in each room, and you must go to the dining area to charge up the phone, which costs you around $2- $5 same goes with the Wi-Fi facility as well. As the trekking is in mountain regions with limited facilities, some adjustments
must be made.

Meals and Drinking Water Facilities

Throughout the Kanchenjunga Circuit Tea House Trek, you’ll get proper 3 meals per day, the region has quite basic foods, but also offers appropriate, nutritious foods. In the morning menu, there are different options available in the tea house like Tibetan local food (Roti, curry, and boiled eggs), English breakfast, Veg, and non-veg soups with tea and coffee, etc, pancakes, porridge, noodles, which are provided before the hike. For lunch and dinner, you just have to mention your preferences to the tea house or guide, and it will be prepared accordingly. For the standard meals, you will find a wide range of meal options, just like any other trekking route, filled with nutrients, like protein, carbs, and fiber, to keep you energetic and persistent throughout the journey.

No matter whether you are vegan, vegetarian, or non-veg, or allergic to some foods, you will find every available option, but make sure to inform the guide and the chef, locals, while preparing the meals, stating your preferences. Just take a note that this Kanchenjunga Trek passes through the remote trailhead, with no tea houses in between, so it is highly suggested that you carry snacks to munch in and keep yourself going and your tummy filled, till we reach the next destination.

Carry a durable water bottle to fill water from the taps or at teahouses. Along the way, the price of bottled water is way out of the affordable range. You can fill the water in the tea house that you are staying in. For the extra boiled water, you have to pay additional charges to the lodge.  Hence, it is highly suggested to carry a Steripen during the Kanchenjunga Trek to purify the water.

Our package includes all three standard three-time meals - Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner, hence, you do not have to pay extra, untill and unless it incurs expenses.

Guides and Porters for Kanchenjunga Trekking

As solo trekking is completely banned for any Kanchenjunga Trek, no matter which ever base camp you go for, north or south, or combined like the Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek route, you must hire an experienced licensed trekking guide for safety and legal purposes. We 100% guarantee anything about safety and comfort, as comforting the clients is our utmost priority. The guides are certified and well-trained with several years of expertise in this field, so you don’t have to worry about anything, as they are technically competent and have excelled in safety performance. The guides are not only experienced in serving more than hundreds of hikers like you within the Kanchenjunga region but are also fully medically equipped so they can respond promptly in case of emergency.

Not only that, but a guide ensures that you are making the best out of this trek, as you will be provided with a great in-depth history, culture, and traditions knowledge through their lens, covering every highlighted aspect of the eastern Himalayan gem.

Meanwhile, porters are truly the backbone of any expedition, as they are not only carrying your gear but also bearing a huge responsibility of taking care of you and all the essentials, so you can hike with a free mind. 1 porter can carry like 22 kgs in total, which can be shared between 2 hikers. If you are a duo hiker, then 1 porter will be enough. However, our Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek package doesn't include porter costs, but we highly suggest you hire along porter for such a long expedition, paying some additional cost. For the details, check out our ADD-ONS section above the site.

Communication, Device Charging, and WIFI Facilities during the Kanchenjunga Circuit Tea House Trek

While trekking in the Kanchenjunga region, communication facilities are limited as only some tea houses include satellite phones; other than that, for ease, please make sure that you buy a SIM CARD while being in Kathmandu. If possible, try buying an NTC SIM Card, as it works fine most of the time except in higher elevations and dense forested areas.

You can buy the datapack for NRS 120 (USD 1), for a 1-week package, or just buy a monthly package paying NRS 380/-, for immediate communication via phone call. Along the trailhead, the guide will carry a satellite phone, so do not worry for an emergency case In the tea house, you can connect with WIFI in the dining area, except in some areas, at the upper trails, do not expect strong connectivity.

As electricity is limited in the upper sections and mostly run by satellite, you must head toward the dining area and recharge the gadgets, waiting in line and paying extra charges. It is expected that at high elevation, it is run by the solar panels, so the accessibility of quick charging ports is difficult, and it is highly suggested to buy 1 power bank for immediate purposes, and recharge gadgets.
