Langtang Gosiankunda Trek Overview
Langtang Gosainkuda Trek is one of the moderate treks in the Langtang Region of Nepal which is covered by Langtang National Park. This is the combined trekking of Langtang Valley and Gosankunda Lake -Lauribina Pass, 4610m high.
Culturally rich Langtang Gosainkunda trekking is mostly inhabited by Tamang ethnic who believe in Buddhism religion and culture. The trekking starts at Syabrubensi after 8-9 hours bus ride from Kathmandu. We cross the suspension bridge over the Langtang River to Kyanjing Gompa. The trail goes along the river and passes through amazing flora and fauna the dense forest of Rhododendron and towering pine trees.
The prevalent Langtang Village – The pride of local people from this area was demolished by a devastating Earthquake in 2015. Nowadays the village has been rehabilitated and trying to forget that tragedy. Traverse through Langtang Valley and passing Bamboo Village, Lama Hotel, Ghoda Tabela, and Kyanjing Gompa make this trip more enjoyable.
The trekkers have multiple choices from Kyanjing Gompa such as hiking to Kyanjing Ri, Cherko Ri, a day trip to Langshisa Kharka, or Yala Peak Climbing. Mt. Langtang Ri, the moraine just behind Kyanjing Village, Langtang Lirung glacier, Yala Peak, Naya Kanga Peak, and many other snowcapped peaks can be closely visible from Kyanjing Ri Viewpoint. One day hiking to Langshisha Kharka – the border of Nepal and China through Langshisha Valley is recommended to the trekkers.

How difficult is Langtang Gosainkunda Lake Trekking?
Trekking in Langtang Gosaikunda is considered a moderate-level to challenging expedition. Within Langtang Valley, the trail is easy to moderate. But this could be a tough level of Langtang trekking if we do the adventure activities in Kyanjing Gompa.
When the trekking trail leads towards Gosaikunda then it is moderately challenging as its height and steep ascending and descending of Lauribina Pass. Gosainkunda is a place over 4300m where the lodges are for food and sleep overnight, altitude may cause the problem, so proper preparation for this trekking is essential. Train with strength exercises hiking, and cardio before embarking on the trek.
What type of Food and accommodation to expect during the trek?
Meals within Lantang and Gosainkunda will be served by local lodges as they have a food menu provided by the Langtang Lodge Management Committee. The meals are simple but with good energy portions for the trekkers to trek. Nepali Dal-Bhat is a good energy source for trekkers. Besides this, noodles, soups, fresh green vegetables, hot tea, etc. are served. It is always a good idea to carry some light snacks and Choco bars with you.
Throughout the Langtang region trek, teahouses or lodges are the means of accommodation that are basic but comfortable. The twin-sharing room with an attached bathroom in the lower regions and room sharing at the peak seasons and in the higher regions. One must pay an extra charge for using Wi-Fi, charging electronic devices, hot water buckets for taking hot showers, boiled water, and laundry.
What is the best time for Langtang Valley Gosainkunda Trekking
The best time for trekking in Langtang Region is from September to half of December (Autumn Season) and from March till May (Spring Season). But trekkers can do this Gosainkunda trip throughout the year, yet not recommended for January and February as Lauribina High Pass could be closed.
The rainy season from June to August might be quite tough as the trails are muddy and slippery. Many of the lodges may get closed for the winter and re-open in late February to March. However, it is possible to trek the Langtang region on the fringe of the season in late February/early March and it can be quite beautiful with snow cover.
Langtang valley and Gosainkunda Lake route
Our Langtang Gosaikunda Trek begins at Syabrubensi, though some trekkers start this trek from Dhunche the capital city of Rasuwa district. The trek starts from Dhunche, the path leads through the nice rhododendron forest and passes small Tamang Villages such as Sano Bharkhu and Thulo Bharku. This trek can be combined with the Tamang Heritage Trail. Once we reach Kyanjing Gompa, can encounter some adventure trekkers who take a real strenuous trek route to the Helambu area through the Ganjala Pass, 5130m/16,826ft.
Culture and religion
Trekking in Langtang Gosainkunda is renowned for its phenomenal natural beauty as well as its highlighted culture and religion. The area is mainly inhabited by the largest ethnic groups of Nepal who are known as Tamang. They believe in Tibetan Buddhism and follow their culture and religion accordingly. Their daily speaking language each other is Tamang which is influenced by the Tibetan language.
Though Hinduism is a significant presence in Gosainkunda as Gosainkunda Lake is one of the holiest Hindu sites of Nepal. The pilgrims from all over Nepal come here for prayers and perform purification rituals. After crossing Lauribina Pass, across the Helambu region, we explore the Sherpa people who mostly believe in Buddhism and Buddhist culture but a different way of culture of Khumbu region of eastern Nepal.
