Such a spiritual journey through changing scenery and culture in a mere eight days shall prove life-transforming, giving the full experience of Buddhism, Tibetan culture, and Nepali heritage true itinerary for every spiritual pursuer, Buddhist follower, or even a history enthusiast.

About Buddhist Pilgrimage Tour in Nepal

Are you seeking some peaceful moments to see the site of Lord Buddha's birth and to understand the heart of Buddhist culture, minus the planning and arduous trekking? Our 8-day Nepal Buddhist Pilgrimage Tour takes one across the holiest Buddhist pilgrimage sites of Nepal, including Lumbini and ancient monasteries of Kathmandu Valley, and serene other temples and Buddhist landmarks of Pokhara. Every important aspect of Buddhist traditions is covered, with comfortable transportation and expert guidance throughout your spiritual journey.

Nepal Buddhist Pilgrimage Tour Itinerary begins with the arrival in Kathmandu, the energetic capital of the country of Nepal, dotted with ancient temples and World Heritage sites that have been singing through the saga of Buddhism for thousands of years. Covering some important sites, from the immense white dome of Boudhanath Stupa to the myriad of brightly colored prayer flags on the hill of Swayambhunath Stupa, where eyes of Buddha gaze upon the valley. Your journey then takes you out to serene countryside of Namo Buddha, the place famous for having witnessed the ultimate act of compassion by the former Buddha in a past life, wherein he fed himself to a hungry tiger family. The winding roads stretch on terraces of hills with tiny villages barely touched by modernization, where the locals follow traditional lifestyle. Then we head along to Kopan Monastery, where Buddhist teachings really come alive with performing prayers, meditation, and warm hospitality by the monks themselves.

And then follows in the Buddhist Pilgrimage Tour in Nepal; the calm lakeside town of Pokhara offers magnificent views of the World Peace Pagoda built by Japanese monks, with their reflections glittering majestically in Phewa Lake alongside the Annapurna mountain ranges. Before dawn from Sarangkot comes the spellbinding sunrise over the Himalayas, with Annapurna, Machhapuchhre, Lamjung Himal, and Hiunchuli bathed in golden red light as the mountain peaks turn pink in the first light of day. Afterward, visit Matepani Gumba along with Tibetan Refugee Camp to soak in the culture and handicrafts of the Tibetans.

The highlight of the spiritual Nepal Buddhist Pilgrimage Tour is the drive to Lumbini, the most revered place for all Buddhists worldwide. The driver parks the car right in front of the gate where, more than 2,500 years earlier, Queen Maya had given birth right above the sal tree to Prince Siddhartha. Old Ashoka pillar has been guarding this sacred place over 2000 years and Maya Devi Temple overlooks this spot. Tilaurakot, the old capital in which Buddha, as Prince Siddhartha spent 29 years of his life and after that got out through the east gate to go on the journey of Enlightenment is also the tourists destination.

On the return drive to Kathmandu through a changing landscape from flat plains to gradually rolling hills, there are opportunities to visit optional UNESCO World Heritage Sites or do a little last-minute shopping in Thamel. It is always advisable to get travel insurance for peace of mind, although our veteran guides ensure that the journey is safe and comfortable from start to finish. Thus, this Nepal Buddhist Heritage Tour is perfect for families, seniors, or anyone who wants to experience Buddhist spirituality without any hard walking or climbing.

Hence, finally, the whole 8-day Buddhism Pilgrimage Tour in Nepal is more than a visit to temples and monasteries- more of grasping the magic of the Himalayas, interacting with warm-hearted Nepalis, and imbibing the calm spiritual aura of these ancient sacred shrines. Genuine cultural and spiritual interest backed by interactions with monks and leaders of the area could bring about a deeper understanding of Buddhist teachings. Hence, the last few days before returning to Kathmandu will forever remain treasured, same as those days filled with memories of Nepalese Buddhist culture and hospitality.

Key Attractions Of Buddhist Pilgrimage Tour In Nepal

Nepal is a big treasure chest of Buddhist history and culture because this beautiful Himalayan nation was the original place of Buddhism, with Prince Siddhartha's birth in Lumbini some 2,500 years ago. Nepal Buddhist Pilgrimage Tour is organized to the most sacred sites of his life and enlightenment, along with the teachings of Buddha. The story of spirituality and wisdom begins with the ancient stupas in the Kathmandu valley and goes all the way to isolated monasteries on the hills above. Through a Buddhist Pilgrimage Tour in Nepal Package, we link to a tradition that has stood for thousands of years, where monks still chant in the same way as they did centuries ago.

Lumbini: The Birthplace Of Gautam Buddha

And can you imagine standing in the very ground where Buddha was born, at Maya Devi temple? Yes, this is the reason so Lumbini is considered by the Buddhists as the most sacred location. Prince Siddhartha was born some 2,500 years ago under the shade of a sal tree by Queen Maya Devi in the same location. Also, here has stood the ancient Ashoka Pillar for more than 2,000 years with inscriptions saying, 'Here was born the Buddha.' In the sacred gardens, you even get to walk through the place where Buddha's mother bathed in a holy pond before his birth. Different countries across the world have constructed temples in the region through their monasteries such as Thailand, Myanmar, and Japan hence we are allowed to visit all of them. Thousands of pilgrims flock the area every year to pray and meditate on this holy ground.

Tilaurakot: Explore the Ancient Capital Of the Shakya Kingdom

Tilaurakot was also a very flourishing city with a much wanted period when a prince was striving to leave all the royal stuff behind to become the awakened being. This old town was thus the very capital of the kingdom of the Shakya, be it ruled over by the father of Buddha King Suddhodana. Stepping in and over the ruins of the palace, the mind of a person could wander and imagine young Prince Siddhartha playing in this very ground and being taught about life in this very walls. Then we proceed to one of the most important places, the eastern gate where Buddha abandoned his luxury life in the palace forever in order to seek the truth about human suffering. And we can observe the remains of walls and gates of the city, as well as of the palace foundation. During the trip we visit a small museum where ancient coins, pottery, and statues found in the course of excavation are exhibited. The entire area is flooded with the overwhelming presence that leads a person to wonder about that courageous act that Buddha took to give away everything in the pursuit of wellbeing of all life forms to guide them to joy and tranquility.

Boudhanath Stupa: Vibrant Center Of Tibetan Buddhism in Kathmandu

We will visit one of the biggest and most mesmerizing Buddhist monuments in the world during our 8-day Buddhist Pilgrimage Tour. There emerges the white dome with all-seeing Buddha eyes painted on it, gazing down at quaint Kathmandu like a deity. Colorful prayer flags flutter to the beat of the wind, carrying with them from their surface, colorful prayers to the heavens. As we walk around the stupa with other pilgrims, this is called a "kora," which imparts a sense of solidarity among Buddhists worldwide. In the morning and evening, monks chant their prayers and low voices reverberate around the silent environment. The tour will also bring us to the local stores where we will be able to buy prayer wheels, singing bowls and small statues of Buddha himself. Every corner of the people is full of sanctity and they can always be seen spinning prayer wheels and lighting butter lamps.

Swoyambhunath Temple: Reach the Hilltop Of Kathmandu

Swayambhunath is a hilltop Buddhist stupa atop a hill towering over the Kathmandu valley where we ascend 365 stone steps to the top, but this climb can be leisurely with enjoyment! We see lovely little monkeys living here that are considered holy. Then, moving on to the derived antique stupa that is more than 2,000 years old and is one of the oldest Buddhist locations in Nepal with amazing views of all the Kathmandu valley. We again see the golden spire and the painted eyes of Buddha on the stupa with compassion looking out over the city. We go to a place where Hindus and Buddhists worship devotedly, marking an existence of peaceful co-existence of different religions in Nepal.

Namo Buddha Temple: The Previous Life Of Buddha

Did you know, situated some few kilometres away from Kathmandu, Namo Buddha is one such very special site that serves as a reminder of the Buddha's kindness from his previous existence? As per Buddhist folktales, the Buddha was once a prince who gave away his body to a starving tiger and her cubs so they would not perish. It certainly was a grand act of charity that took place here at Namo Buddha. While visiting this hilltop temple covered with serenity, we pass by the ancient stupa marking the sanctity. After that, we arrive at the monastery and encounter monks who like to welcome visitors and occasionally let people watch them perform their religious duties. This is the place that symbolizes the infinite love of the Buddha towards all living beings, calling for a little kindness from us towards other needy beings, be they animals or humans.

Explore Major Sites In Pokhara

Pokhara is considered Nepal's most calm and romantic city, sitting at the shores of the serene Phewa Lake, it offers the view of snow-clad peaks of Annapurna reflected in the waters. The World Peace Pagoda is a white stupa built by Japanese monks to promote peace to the whole world. The Nepal Buddhist Pilgrimage Tour tour next drives us to Matepani Gumba, a lively Tibetan Buddhist monastery that perches on the hill above Pokhara and young monks can be found studying and playing. The tour then continues to the Tibetan Refugee Camp where we are also allowed to meet the Tibetan families who arrived in Nepal some years ago and get to know more about the culture and customs of Tibet. We also encounter them as they are occupied in weaving exquisite carpets, jewelry, and handicrafts which are carried as a souvenir. The entire atmosphere of Pokhara is very serene and spiritual and it is an ideal place to come after you exhaust yourself of the bustling attractions of Kathmandu.

Sunrise View From Sarangkot

Sarangkot is reputed to have the finest sunrise view of all the Himalayas so we start early in the morning at around 5 am and reach the hilltop by cruising the winding road in darkness. It just sounds insane but this is where the magic is! The rising sun behind the Annapurna mountain range would color the snow-capped peaks with shades of pink, orange, and gold as if the sky was getting painted down with some spellbinding hues.

The sun peeping out over the Himalayan mountain range would turn the snow capped mountains pink, orange, and gold as though the sky got painted down with some magical colours. The spectacular vistas include the mountains, which are much talked of the Fish Tail Mountain, Annapurna South, and the Hiunchuli, standing with each other as the guardians of giants.

Kopan Monastery

Kopan Monastery sits in all serenity, located atop a hill overlooking Kathmandu and famous for Buddhism teachings imparted to students from all over the world. Western students come to this monastery to learn meditation, Buddhist philosophy, or to improve how they live peaceful lives. Next, we spot the main temple with many bright decorations, pictures of Buddha, and remarkable frescoes painted above. Standing at the monastery’s grounds lets you watch Kathmandu valley and its lights becoming visible as the sun sets. We might also come across students from other countries who came to study and learn about Buddhism. During the Nepal Buddhist Heritage Tour, we are led to attend points where monks give talks in simple English on Buddhist teachings that enhance our understanding of this ancient wisdom. This place assures us that Buddhism continues to be a force throughout the modern world in intervening to bring peace and joy to humanity.

An early breakfast will be served at the hotel, and the guide should be arriving to pick you up shortly after. The drive to Namo Buddha is 40 kilometers from Kathmandu,  in a private vehicle, an hour and a half of passing beautiful hills and tiny villages. One of the holiest spots for Buddhists in Nepal, it is said locally that Buddha gave away his body at this place to feed a hungry tiger and her cubs. We then visit the beautiful Thrangu Tashi Yangtze Monastery for some time devoted to meditation and prayer.

We will head back to Kathmandu and visit one of the largest Buddhist stupas in the world, Boudhanath Stupa with a huge dome decorated in prayer flags.  We shall make our kora which is a meditative circumambulation of the stupa, along with other pilgrims. The locals sell prayer wheels, incense, and tiny statues of Buddha.

Last but not least, Kopan Monastery is perched on a hill overlooking Kathmandu. A good number of foreign students come here to learn Buddhism. Here we can study Buddhism and perhaps join in a short meditation session. There are evening prayers that we could join if we wanted. Then will head back to the hotel in Kathmandu to rest.

Early morning wake-up call for another special experience! We drive up to the top of the hill at Swayambhunath Stupa, also famously called the "Monkey Temple", by our guide. We climb 365 stone steps to reach the top; it is like an excellent morning exercise! Don't worry; we can take our time. The monkeys here are adorable and they are everywhere. The top view gives a panoramic view of the Kathmandu valley, bathed in the golden hues of morning light, making the ambience very soothing. The old temples and prayer wheels here are older than 2,000 years.

Then, we go back to our hotel then set out for Pokhara. Our route from Kathmandu Valley is changing from the hustle and bustle of downtown to calm and open landscapes. From the Prithvi Highway, the middle hill landscape is quite a sight with the Trisuli River flowing just on our side. From Dhading across Chitwan and Tanahun to the back of rustic villages, terraced fields, and green hills, we arrive late in the afternoon at Pokhara. Pokhara is much more alive as compared to Kathmandu and lies beside a lake bordered by snow-capped mountains. Later, we can venture around Phewa Lake and visit countless cafes and shops.

This day is filled with magnificent sights, and again we have an early start! Morning driving to Sarangkot Hill before sunrise is worth it because we get to watch the sun come up behind the massive Annapurna mountains with the peaks turning pink, orange, and then gold. We can also get panoramic views of famous mountains such as Machhapuchhre (Fish Tail), Hiunchuli, Lamjung Himal, and Annapurna. After breakfast, we head to another of the most superb panoramic views around, the World Peace Pagoda. It was built by Japanese monks and stands as a white witness to the promotion of world peace, offering a quiet place for one's meditations and views of the lake and mountains.

After this, we get to Matepani Gumba, a splendid Tibetan monastery perched on the hills above Pokhara, where colorful decorations and serene atmosphere make us feel calm. We watch the monks carrying on with their prayers for the day. The monastery also has a school for young monks. Our last stop is Hyangja Tibetan Refugee Camp, one of the Tibetan refugee settlements that were set up after Tibetans had to flee their homeland following the Chinese takeover. One can visit this little monastery and learn a little about Tibetan culture. The people of this area also make and sell beautiful carpets, jewelry, and handicrafts which we may purchase as souvenirs from this trip. So much traveling for a day, now we shall drive back to the hotel.

On our journey today, we will go to Lumbini, which for Buddhists is considered the holiest place because more than 2,500 years ago, Prince Siddhartha was born here and became Lord Buddha. At breakfast, we go to the vehicle and travel through the level terrain in southern Nepal, which leads us to the prominent Lumbini. The scenery changes from hills to rice fields and scattered little farming villages, thus offering us a glimpse of rural life and work in Nepal.

By the time we reach Lumbini, something special is felt in the air; this placid place has drawn pilgrims for hundreds of years. We will be checking in and resting at the hotel for some time to recover from the long drive. Later, in the evening, we can go for a quiet stroll around the sacred garden. The sunset is serene and calming, and there is a possibility of chants from different parts of the world walking alongside us in prayer.

Max Altitude: 150 meters Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and DinnerAccommodation: 3-star HotelDuration: 4-5 hoursDistance: 150km

Today is the most significant day of our pilgrimage, where we will experience the very place where Buddha was born and nurtured. The ancient Maya Devi Temple is still standing from those days, where the Queen Maya Devi gave birth to Prince Siddhartha under a sal tree. Within the temple is a view of the ancient marker stone marking Buddha's birthplace. The energy that resides here is intense as we are standing where the greatest spiritual teacher the world has ever known first entered the world. Walking slowly and quietly, we trail through the sacred garden which is a serene little park home to the sacred pond where Queen Maya Devi bathed before the birth. The remaining red brick foundations here are the ruins of the monasteries built long ago. From far and wide, pilgrims come here to meditate and pray. The next step is visiting the Ashoka Pillar that is beside the temple. In the year 2,200 ago, Emperor Ashoka reportedly created this pillar to mark the location where the Buddha was born. The ancient inscription- "Here was born the Buddha", still stands legible before us today.

After you are done with lunch, move on towards Tilaurakot which is the ancient Kapilavastu and it takes about 30 minutes to reach there. Here was the place where King Suddhodana, Lord Buddha’s father, lived, and where the Lord Buddha as a Prince had stayed for more than 29 years before he started his pilgrimage for Enlightenment. We walk around the ruins of the old palace and gaze at the eastern gate through which Lord Buddha had taken His steps out of His life as a Prince on earth. A small museum with a display of old coins, pottery, and statues excavated from this site awaits. On the way we see the beautiful Thai Monastery (Wat Thai). This golden temple was constructed by Thai Buddhists and is just like those in Thailand. Different from the Nepali style of temple-building, we see beautiful Buddha statues and wall paintings inside. Depending on time, we may visit monasteries established by Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Japan, and China, all in their own style, relating the tale of how Buddhism took shape in different parts of the world.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and DinnerAccommodation: 3-star Hotel

Today, from Lumbini, we return to Kathmandu and having long hours of traveling ahead of us, we woke up early to catch some breakfast before setting off. It's like watching Nepal change right before our eyes! From here, we start from the flat plains of Terai, watching rice fields go endlessly to the horizon. The local farmers working in the fields alongside their water buffaloes, we see several tiny villages where simple mud houses are tilted upright with thatched roofs.  As we climb up, the flatlands slowly transmute into rolling hills blanketed with lush green forests. During the second half of our driving, terraced landscapes take over, wherein the farmers grow rice, corn, and vegetables.

If we somehow manage to reach Kathmandu by early evening and are not too worn out, we might be tempted by more sightseeing at UNESCO World Heritage Sites on an optional basis. Patan Durbar Square is an old royal city filled with wooden statues in its old palaces and temples. The Pashupatinath Temple in Kathmandu should be included if you want to see the main temple of Nepal’s Hindus. Since Buddhists come to appreciate the spiritual meaning and beauty, the temple continues to attract many visitors. Kathmandu Durbar Square is a preserved royal area that has lots of temples. You can also visit the Kumari Mandir, enjoy ancient palaces, and get a glimpse of the unique culture this city has. Lying in the next town, the Bhaktapur Durbar Square is home to a thriving traditional center full of temples. In case you want to get some quick shopping done, Thamel would be the marketplace for you, offering singing bowls, prayer flags, Buddha statues, and numerous Nepali handicrafts. We will have a farewell dinner together with the group and our guide in the evening.

Essential Information

Best time to do the Buddhist Pilgrimage Tour in Nepal

Planning your Nepal Buddhist Pilgrimage Tour at the perfect time makes all the difference for this ultimate cultural trip. The months from October through May are best for our 8-day Buddhist Pilgrimage Tour when the weather is dry and sunny. These months make our travel to all Nepal Buddhist Pilgrimage Sites easy, without worrying about heavy rainfall or snow blocking up mountain roads.

October and November are excellent months for our Nepal Buddhist Heritage Tour because of the two big festivals happening, that is, Dashain and Tihar. During Dashain, families assemble, and colorful decorations beautify just about everywhere. Being the festival of lights, all Buddhist temples and monasteries glitter under oil lamps and candles, so visiting Boudhanath and Swayambhunath during the time of celebrations is magical!

While March to May is good as well, so warm and clear weather with spectacular mountain views of clear skies from Sarangkot and World Peace Pagoda are there. Spring flowers everywhere add to a more serene experience of visiting these monasteries. Buddha Jayanti (the birthday of Buddha), which falls sometime during April or May, happens to be the most important festival in the Buddhist Pilgrimage Tour in Nepal Package. Lumbini gets special consideration during this period as thousands of pilgrims from across the world come together at the birthplace of Lord Buddha.

We are basically a cultural tour focusing on Buddhist Pilgrimage Sites, so we need not worry about wonderful trekking weather. One can very well go during winter months (December to February), though the mornings will be quite cold, and one might find the daylight hours a bit too short to explore a lot of sites. However, in February, there is the Tibetan New Year called Losar, and everyone rejoices when they celebrate this in all the monasteries as part of our Nepal Buddhist Heritage Tour. Specially performed prayers, the masked dancing, and colorful decorations may be observed in places such as Kapan Monastery and Tibetan camps in Pokhara.

However, Heavy monsoons (June to September) might hinder comfortable temple visits and safe mountain road drives. Regardless of the time of visit, the Nepal Buddhist Heritage Tour Itinerary offers us calmness, spirituality, and fascinating cultural expressions all year round.

Why take the Nepal Buddhist Pilgrimage Tour?

The Buddhist Pilgrimage Tour 8 days is worthwhile to feel the beating of the soul and consider Buddhist history and teachings, which are more than 2000 years old. It does not matter whether you are simply an involved historian or a very religious-minded individual, because this pilgrimage will open the door to experiences that you will always treasure.

Cultural And Spiritual Interest

Buddhist Pilgrimage Tour in Nepal leads you into a world where age-old customs are really still alive and well. Pilgrims can visit Boudhanath Stupa, where prayer flags in bright colors dance in the wind of the mountains as they tour around a huge white domed structure. We find numerous attractive stupas, monasteries, and old artworks that tell the story telling about the life and teachings of Buddha. It is a chance to actually witness the living Buddhist culture of Nepal, interact with the locals, and just feel the serene vibe of respect that envelops these sacred places.

Deepens The Understanding Of The Buddhist Teachings

Learning about Buddhism in the books will be one thing and being in Nepal and visiting the sacred locations in person during the Nepal Buddhist Pilgrimage Tour is absolutely something of different dimension. Being in the Maya Devi Temple in Lumbini, in that very earthly place that Buddha saw the light of the world in, would transform the entire teaching into something very personal, into reality. We listen, meditate, discuss with the monks and read on kindness, awareness and tranquility. As we visit these epic Buddhist sites that formed the history of the world, monks at Swayambhunath Stupa and Namo Buddha put forth the Buddhist concepts and doctrines in simple words.

Connect With Local Monks And Leaders

One of the most unique aspects of any Buddhist Pilgrimage Tour, perhaps, is that you get to make acquaintance with beautiful monks in holy places such as Kapan Monastery or Thrangu Tashi Yangtze Monastery, and they are people who have devoted their lives to share the message of Buddha. Monks can even provide us with basic meditation or mindfulness exercises that we can do every day. It is not only about learning but an occasion to feel the warm hospitality and kind wisdom of these monks. Throughout your 8-day Buddhist Pilgrimage Tour, you will realize that your wise teachers also enjoy engaging in simple talk and laughter.

Thrive In The Buddhist Ritual And Ceremonies

Your Buddhist Pilgrimage Tour in Nepal Package provides you with a variety of opportunities to be a part of real Buddhist ceremonies every day at sacred sites. Feel free to walk around Boudhanath or Swayambhunath and touch the Wheels of Dharma, chant mantras, or offer prayers. The lighting of butter lamps, going around the stupas following the clockwise direction, and hearing the chanting of monks are some of the spiritual practices that can help in developing being and understanding more about Buddhism. The festivals of Buddha Jayanti and Lhosar are celebrated inside the sacred areas of the monasteries and stupas with prayers, dancing, and singing.

Meditation and Spiritual Growth

If you have never meditated, then the Buddhist Pilgrimage Tour in Nepal presents a great chance to learn this ancient art at the most tranquil locations. Sacred gardens in Lumbini present solitary locations close to the Maya Devi Temple where one can practice inner reflection. At Namo Buddha and Kapan Monastery, with beautiful mountainous backgrounds, you can also find stillness easily and be focused on the meditation spots. Meditation is a unique opportunity to experience a spiritual connection in the World Peace Pagoda in a lovely scenic landscape behind you in Pokhara. The period is an opportunity to connect with the feelings, forget the pain, and build strength.

Suitable For Devout Buddhists And History Enthusiasts

You can take this tour if devout Buddhist or someone who simply loves studying ancient Buddhist history. Devout Buddhists find deep spiritual meaning at Lumbini, at Maya Devi Temple, and walking the same paths Buddha walked at the ruins of Tilaurakot palace. The history enthusiast finds plenty of interesting stories at the Ashoka Pillar and UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Swayambhunath Stupa and Boudhanath Stupa. The 8-day Buddhist Pilgrimage Tour Package truly mixes culture, spirituality, and history for everyone.

How to Prepare for an 8-Day Buddhist Pilgrimage Tour?

  • Make your reservation 2-3 months in advance since the pilgrimage tours get booked fast, especially during festival times and spring months when the weather is just perfect.
  • Get insurance to cover medical treatments, trip cancellations, and missing baggage, so you do not land into any unexpected problems all by yourself.
  • Before the tour, get your doctor for your general physical health and basic medical considerations. Ask them which vaccinations you might need for Nepal.
  • Change some currency into Nepali Rupees. Cards are acceptable in almost all hotels, but you will need cash for temple offerings, buying prayer flags at Boudhanath Stupa, and shopping at local markets.
  • Having some elementary understanding of Buddha's life and teachings. This will enable you to treat the locals with respect and even have a more enjoyable time learning about their culture.
  • Ensure that your passport is valid for a further duration of at least 6 months following the date on which you intend to travel. Travelers must get this to enter Nepal.
  • Create copies of your passport, visa, insurance papers, and tickets for your flight. It is wise to have copies of your documents just in case you lose the originals. Be sure to handle your credit cards carefully.
  • Decide what to do during free time. Your Nepal Buddhist Pilgrimage Tour Package offers some free hours in Kathmandu and Pokhara for private exploration, shopping, or additional meditation sessions.

Essential Packing List For Buddhist Pilgrimage Travelers

  • Shoes for comfortable walking during driving time. Any temple visit and jungle walk requires strong-soled walking shoes. Flip-flops to wear during those carefree days.
  • Sarangkot can be rather cold in the morning, and a late morning sun will demand something warm even amid afternoon heat.
  • You will be outdoors for hours outdoors such as the World Peace Pagoda, and strolling around the large Boudhanath Stupa ground under the glaring mountain sun.
  • A good quality camera with extra batteries; views from Sarangkot and the striking architecture in the Thai Monastery truly merit the best photographs.
  • An adequately equipped small personal medicine kit: include your ordinary meds and some for the common headache, stomach trouble, and cuts. Also, include a few band-aids and antiseptic cream.
  • A small backpack; it makes going in and out of activities easier while your important items are stored. Out and about sightseeing? Bring water, a camera, maybe a few snacks, along with your addresses and personal stuff.
  • Keep in a waterproof folder all your travel papers, your passport, your visa, your insurance policy and a phone contact person in the event that something happens. Also, carry spare copies of your papers, so in case of loss of the originals, you have something to rely on.

Cultural Etiquettes and Respectful Behavior at Sacred Sites

  • Circle stupas and temples clockwise. In Boudhanath Stupa and Swayambhunath Stupa, be accompanied by the other pilgrims in a clockwise loop, not the opposite direction.
  • Take off one's shoes before entering temple buildings. Inside almost all temples, like at Maya Devi Temple in Lumbini and monastery prayer halls, you are expected to remove your shoes as the floors may be considered sacred.
  • Keep dress codes down to modesty, with shoulders and knees well covered. This is a standard mark of respect at all Nepal Buddhist Pilgrimage Sites and holds utmost value while interacting with monks.
  • Keep voices low and peaceful. Areas like meditation halls and prayer halls require people to converse only in whispers and remain calm.
  • Ask before taking pictures of anybody. This is more so for monks and local pilgrims at places and ceremonies throughout the various locations.
  • Do not put your feet toward Buddha statues or altars. One is usually expected to sit cross-legged or to have their feet tucked in while meditating or just resting around the temples.
  • Make tiny donations politely. Put the money in the donation box at the temples, or if allowed, hand it directly to the monks with both hands, foregoing a slight bow.
  • Turn off phone sound and avoid loud talking. This is because such places hold the relaxed ambiance that pilgrims go seeking.
  • Do not touch religious statues or things. Many items available at Nepal Buddhist Pilgrimage Sites are ancient and sacred; look with your eyes, but hands off.
  • Observe the rules for photography at each location. Some areas may not allow pictures to be taken inside the Maya Devi Temple or certain monastery halls.

Accommodation along the Buddhist Pilgrimage Route in Nepal

Where you get to sleep during the Nepal Buddhist Pilgrimage Tour would be the very factor between having a good or a bad spiritual experience. The good news: you will hardly have to worry about finding accommodation! Your Buddhist Pilgrimage Tour in Nepal Package offers accommodation in good hotels in all three major cities to be visited.

In Kathmandu

Your Nepal Buddhist Heritage Tour will start and end in Kathmandu, and accommodations are comfortable, have private bathrooms, and offer Wi-Fi. The hotels have clean rooms with good food and offer basic to average hotel service within walking distance to temples and markets while discovering the city's rich Buddhist heritage.

In Pokhara

Hotels in Pokhara during the Buddhist Pilgrimage Tour in Nepal offer something special in the way of the view of the lake! Most of the rooms face the calm waters of the Phewa Lake with the majestic snow-studded mountains in the background. The rooms are clean with attached bathrooms and give you a comfortable stay.

In Lumbini

It is a truly extra-special experience to stay in Lumbini, since you can sleep very close to the actual birth-site of Buddha in the Maya Devi Temple. The hotels are not fancy but pretty good in cleanliness and comfort, so pilgrim guests will readily emphasize spiritual experiences rather than fine goods or services. Many have fruits and flowers growing out in the gardens, and would be good places to meditate quietly after visiting the sacred places.

Transportation facilities

Getting around from one place to another is easier on our Buddhist Pilgrimage Tour. You use private vehicles or touring coaches and these are secure and dependable. Roads, including the ones linking Kathmandu to Pokhara and Lumbini, are highways and you will find few rough places. No long walks are involved in the course of the tour, and Buddhist temples or monasteries are only one step away just behind the car parking site. The mountain road to Sarangkot is rough yet lovely, with its beauty. Our driver is well seasoned on these roads and guarantees you will be driven carefully. Overall, the transport of the Buddhist Pilgrimage Tour in Nepal is comfortable in a way that you may appreciate the spiritual experiences without worrying about getting from one spot to the other.

Travel Tips during the Buddhist Pilgrimage Tour in Nepal

  • Avoid showing shoulders and knees whenever entering a temple or monastery. Loose, breathable clothing fitting the climate is considered respectful for such sacred places.
  • Take off your shoes and hats inside any temple or monastery building. Most places provide racks or storage for shoes.
  • Layer up for weather changes. Normally, it can be extremely cold when you take a walk on a sunrise watching trip at Sarangkot. Even in spring and autumn, a warm jacket, a sweater, and long trousers have to be worn even during the warm days.
  • Have small-denomination bills ready. As with any trip, always carry pocket change to hand to people; temple donations, entry fees, purchasing prayer flags or incense, or tipping local guides.
  • Hydrate well during the whole trip. The bottled water is your best choice, especially for long drives between cities or while walking around the temple and stupas areas.
  • Photographing people should be done after you have received their permission, especially when they are monks and pilgrims. Some temple interiors do not allow the camera at all. Respect and be careful when it comes to being in a prayer ceremony or during a meditation session; put your camera away.
  • Speak low and never in a hurry when you are going into a temple or a monastery. Put the ringer of your cell phone on mute, and avoid loud conversations. After all, these are the places where we are supposed to pray, meditate, and have a spiritual reflection.
  • Reflect on food and water. Only stick to bottled water and well-prepared meals in good restaurants. Raw vegetables, street food, and ice cubes should be avoided when you do not have a stomach that tolerates local food.
  • Have an easy carry-out backpack with the essential items. It is advisable to carry along some water bottles, light snacks, sun block, some basic medicines, and the key documents for any temples and monastery entry.
  • At times, the road may have contingent delays in the form of traffic holdups, road repairs, or even bad weather. Talk to your guide or other travelers in the meantime.
